This sumptuous house of a frontier bigwig gives intimate tours offering revealing takes on day-to-day Victorian life..
In Short
The Ramsey House is one of the most detailed and intimate historical sites in the Twin Cities. The only owners were the Ramsey family, and so the history stayed in the house. More than 90 percent of the furnishings are original--rare for historical sites. There are also marble fireplaces and carved walnut woodwork. Now, costumed interpreters play out vignettes about the life and times of this former land speculator and Minnesota's first territorial governor.
Past Comes Alive. Visiting the Ramsey House is fun. I especially like that the guides are in costume, and that there is so many peices of the Ramsey's actual stuff in the house. I especially enjoyed the Christmas programn. The only problem is that because of Historical Society budget cuts, they are open only on Fridays and Saturdays now, it's sad.
