What People Are Saying About Turf Club

In Short – The Turf Club had a reputation as the Twin Cities' foremost place for country two-stepping long before line dancing became a pop-culture phenomenon. These days, the Turf is known as a club where new bands can hone their performing skills. The place teems with music scenesters, especially during evenings when hot local bands are onstage. There are live music performances every night, sometimes by the odd national act (at eye-poppingly low cover charges).
Be careful with the bartenders
by gingerrogers
Had a good time there seeing some bands on a Sat. night, but my night was spoiled by one of the bartenders. This guy has to be psychotic. He was 86'ing people like it was his private little game. Seriously. Do not attempt to joke around with this loose-nut. For reference, he is a slovenly looking guy with scraggly graying hair and a beard and was seen wearing a trucker cap. If anyone in management is reading this, you ought to 86 this guy from your place. You patrons will have a much better time and you will likely see more repeat business.
Besides that whack-job the place is pretty cool.
- Pros: ample seating at the bar, stiff drinks
- Cons: Cost of drinks is average, should be less for a low-brow place like this

so, the Turf Club isn't all that great. But lets stop and think about why you go to a bar...Sometimes they have good bands, they serve you drinks, and cool kids hang out there. Nobody likes University, but stop by and have a drink.
Facemakers
by Skug
I love the atmosphere at the Turf Club, particularly the dim and gritty (dim-gritty) atmosphere in the subterranean Clown Lounge. The bartenders serve delightfully strong mixed drinks, which I like to call facemakers.
I have only one criticism: I realize the Turf Club is a music club above all else. Alas, the music upstairs is sometimes painstakingly loud, which is only a problem on nights the Clown Lounge is not open, those unfortunately being off-nights when the band is not particularly compelling.
- Pros: Facemakers, Clown Lounge, Mood
- Cons: Eardrum breakers

The Extras:
The kooky renovation of the downstairs Clown Lounge--stick a quarter into the local music-heavy jukebox--has turned a once-wasted basement space into a popular meeting place.
