While Gen-Y entrepreneurs all over town keep trying to reinvent the pizzeria, this St. Paul mainstay is content to simply continue doing what it’s done for decades. Hungry locals are known to wait patiently during busy lunch and dinner hours for Carbone’s primary product: American-style pizza of the thin-crusted, heavily cheesed, mouth-wateringly delicious variety. Though there’s no real turf war in this realm, you could justifiably pit this place against Red’s Savoy for the championship title. Just be prepared to bide a little time during the summer months, when little leaguers and other youth groups are apt to command the kitchen’s attention en masse.
Carbone's on Randolph and Davern .. the most underrated pizza in the Twin Cities.. This specific Carbone's on Randolph and Davern is family owned and run. I've been to the other places listed as Carbone's ... but THIS is the one to go to. The atmosphere is family oriented. The service is fast. The pizza is delivered to your table very quickly and HOT. I love their pizza .. it is the best in the cities. (I would have said Green Mill on Hamline in Saint Paul 30 years ago ... when it was family owned and tasted great .. but it is not the same anymore.) Carbone's is very reasonable pricing. There is plenty of great tasting cheeses and ample tomato sauce. The ingredients are all fresh .. and taste it. You can order a plain cheese pizza and go out happy. Or oder as many seperate ingredients as you want to. Either way, it is GREAT pizza. I grew up in this neighborhood, and as far as I am concerned, this place is a hidden gem. You've got to try it out. It is vastly underrated.
Pretty good, but not as amazing as I was expecting. I'd heard such great things about Carbone's, so we went recently and the pizza was fine (it's all thin crust) but it was not the best pizza I've ever had. Service was not great but we did come near closing time and all the workers looked like they were 18 or younger. Nice little place, food was pretty good.
Best Pizza on the east coast. I have had many different types of pizza, however my family grew up eating at Carbone's on Randolph. When ever my sisters come into town they have to have Carbones. And when I visit I have to bring frozen ready to eat pizza there from Carbones. The staff is really friendly and they make you feel special everytime you come. It only takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes to receive a really tastey pizza. It is one of my favorite don't have to cook meals. And only at CARBONE's!
Best pizza in Twin Cities since 1962. When I was a kid, a trip to Carbone's was our most anticipated treat. Now I often take pizzas to out-of-state relatives who have to have their Carbone's fix. Not a big place but it proves product quality and friendly service never go out of style. Using their own recipes they maintain great, consistent quality. None of the chains can drive this one out of business.
