What People Are Saying About Dixie's On Grand

In Short – Haute cuisine? Hardly. Just hearty, semi-authentic Southern food with friendly service in a fun restaurant and bar--lots of neon, noise, Southern-state flags and swirling ceiling fans. Couples and friends sway to the recorded zydeco and watch a toy train circle the bar. Ribs teeter off plates and are available in various combos. Platters like chicken-fried steak and smoked prime rib are served true Southern style with sides of black-eyed peas, green beans and skin-on fries.

Editor's Tips

When to Go:
A Sunday brunch brings cornbread stuffing, eggs and more smoked meats. At least the desserts are skippable: pallid Key Lime pie, gooey pecan pie.
The Extras:
More than a dozen sandwiches and burgers appeal to fainter appetites.

Will Not Return--Tasteless and NOT Worth the Money!

by ceejayin at Citysearch

My family and I unfortunately spent almost $100 at this "soul, southern restaurant!" Although the ambiance was nice and the staff were pleasant, the food was terrible! My family has southern roots so I know what southern food should taste like--and southern food should taste good. Dixie's food was honestly quite painful to eat! The soul fries were cold, the pork po'boy was dry, the pot roast on potatoes was flavorless and inedible, and the macaroni and cheese was watery and tasteless--salt and pepper will not help this food! Also, McDonald's Sweet Tea tastes better than their southern sweet tea--we should have just gone to McDdonald's for dinner--it would have been tastier and MUCH cheaper! In this economy, we don't have money to waste on bad food, but complaining to the staff would not have helped the situation--what that restaurant needs is some real chefs in the kitchen who know how to cook--they should hire my family for starters! If you want real southern food, do NOT choose this place! Avoid!

First time...Great food!

by Jen Chambers at Citysearch

Great atmosphere, patio was amazing too. Great waitress and a nice deal on tap beers even though we missed happy hour. St. Louis style ribs were amazing...I would go back just for the ribs...didn't think the biscuits were all that special...but all in all...a great place for a date or drinks on the patio...they were also setting up for Salsa Friday nights when we left...now that sounds fun!

  • Pros: Location, unique food for this area
  • Cons: prices a bit high

Mediocre Dining Experience

by Altruist at Citysearch

I hadn’t been to Dixie’s in over 3 years, and was disappointed with the dining experience. The evening started out great with a nice bottle of wine, but went downhill when from there. The first 3 wine selections we made from the menu were no longer being served at Dixie’s, and we had to settle with our fourth choice. We were also told that our first two selections were full price, until we were told that the wine was no longer served.

The dinner was disappointing, especially the mac-n-cheese which was bland. We had the ribs and Bleu Grass Chicken Breast and the ribs were served cold. The side dishes of green beans and corn on the cob were ok.

  • Cons: Bland Food, Incomplete Menus

Great date restaurant.

by minneapolitan at Citysearch

Dixie's has a fun, authentic atmosphere and all their soul/cajun food is great. Check out their Sunday bruch--bloody marys, jambalaya, sweet potato pancakes...can't go wrong!

  • Pros: delicous food, great location

Great Customer Service, Food, Atmosphere

by niquelouise at Citysearch

I absolutely love Dixie's On Grand. I just got done reading the previous experience of these past customers but I had a great experience. I ENCOURAGE everyone to visit Dixie's on Grand and not let any of these comments discourage you. They have the best service by a brunette, short girl named Nikki. hehehe!!! The servers are great !!! The fried green tomatoes are excellent!!! Who has fried green tomatoes at any restaurant in town???? The drinks are spectacular!!! Happy hour is a must!! 3-6 everyday!!! Holy cow!!! Love the karaoke on Thursday nights and I love to dance so the Salsa night on Fridays is a plus!!! Just give it it a try and if its not your style, its not your style but I LOVE IT and the funky environment is cool!!! So maybe I'll see ya at the bar!!!

  • Pros: Great Service!!! and a great NEW PATIO!!!!!!
  • Cons: What there is a bad thing about Dixie's!!!!??? Maybe the parking but they do have Valet
