Will Not Return--Tasteless and NOT Worth the Money!. My family and I unfortunately spent almost $100 at this "soul, southern restaurant!" Although the ambiance was nice and the staff were pleasant, the food was terrible! My family has southern roots so I know what southern food should taste like--and southern food should taste good. Dixie's food was honestly quite painful to eat! The soul fries were cold, the pork po'boy was dry, the pot roast on potatoes was flavorless and inedible, and the macaroni and cheese was watery and tasteless--salt and pepper will not help this food! Also, McDonald's Sweet Tea tastes better than their southern sweet tea--we should have just gone to McDdonald's for dinner--it would have been tastier and MUCH cheaper! In this economy, we don't have money to waste on bad food, but complaining to the staff would not have helped the situation--what that restaurant needs is some real chefs in the kitchen who know how to cook--they should hire my family for starters! If you want real southern food, do NOT choose this place! Avoid!
First time...Great food!. Great atmosphere, patio was amazing too. Great waitress and a nice deal on tap beers even though we missed happy hour. St. Louis style ribs were amazing...I would go back just for the ribs...didn't think the biscuits were all that special...but all in all...a great place for a date or drinks on the patio...they were also setting up for Salsa Friday nights when we left...now that sounds fun!
Mediocre Dining Experience.
I hadn’t been to Dixie’s in over 3 years, and was disappointed with the dining experience. The evening started out great with a nice bottle of wine, but went downhill when from there. The first 3 wine selections we made from the menu were no longer being served at Dixie’s, and we had to settle with our fourth choice. We were also told that our first two selections were full price, until we were told that the wine was no longer served.
The dinner was disappointing, especially the mac-n-cheese which was bland. We had the ribs and Bleu Grass Chicken Breast and the ribs were served cold. The side dishes of green beans and corn on the cob were ok.
Great date restaurant.. Dixie's has a fun, authentic atmosphere and all their soul/cajun food is great. Check out their Sunday bruch--bloody marys, jambalaya, sweet potato pancakes...can't go wrong!
Great Customer Service, Food, Atmosphere. I absolutely love Dixie's On Grand. I just got done reading the previous experience of these past customers but I had a great experience. I ENCOURAGE everyone to visit Dixie's on Grand and not let any of these comments discourage you. They have the best service by a brunette, short girl named Nikki. hehehe!!! The servers are great !!! The fried green tomatoes are excellent!!! Who has fried green tomatoes at any restaurant in town???? The drinks are spectacular!!! Happy hour is a must!! 3-6 everyday!!! Holy cow!!! Love the karaoke on Thursday nights and I love to dance so the Salsa night on Fridays is a plus!!! Just give it it a try and if its not your style, its not your style but I LOVE IT and the funky environment is cool!!! So maybe I'll see ya at the bar!!!
very mediocre food, good service, not good for kids. I ate lunch here with three kids today, and it was a very bad experience. We were seated in the smoking area without being told there was smoking on the patio; this created quite a scene with a problem customer when I asked to be moved inside after another customer indicated she was going to smoke at the table next to us. Though there was a kid's menu, all three kids kids did not like the buttered noodles; my crab cakes were greasy and bland other than the flash of jalapeno, and my cole slaw seemed several days old by its color, texture, and appearance. The service was very good, and the management was concerned after my run in with the rude customer, but I would not go back here even for an adult evening: for this price, you can get excellent food at places like Heartland's wine bar. This seems to be a suburban restaurant in the city.
BEST VEGETARIAN BURGER. Not many vegetarian options but the veggie burger is spicy and fall apart tender. The loaded fries are wonderful. Great southern tastes. Parking lot with valet. Interesting little bar with a train that circulates it. Staff is friendly and fast. Can get crowded, good idea to make reservations on the weekend.
Some great food, some horrible food.... NOT CONSISTENT. We ate there on a slow weeknight. We had incredible crab cakes with jalepeno tarter sauce to start. My entree was awful. I ordered ribs that were as tough as leather. It was the first time in my life I have ever sent anything back to the kitchen. The service and the environment were great and I would maybe give it another chance. The menu had many appealing items.
HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE BRUNCH.
Went to Dixie's for a girls brunch Sunday and it was without a doubt the absolute WORST brunch I have ever had in my life. The food was was not fresh, cold, boring. For the price, $25.00 per person, we were expecting a larger "spread". Total waste of time and money.
Service was awful as well which was really unfortunate considering we were probalby 1 of 5 tables in the whole restaurant. DO NOT WASTE your time or money. It was truly awful!
