Worst service in St Paul.
We have gone there about five times in the past two years, all of them we have experienced the worst service in St Paul. They don't seem to believe in servers/wait staff (they are called differently depending on the place) who bring the food to the table so you get it hot and timely. They have one waiter for the table who takes care of it all, which means drinks are left empty, food is cold (which just happened on Saturday 11/10/07 and I had to have them return it to heat it up.)
If you need anything, even water it takes 5-10 minutes. Once I asked for a coaster, only to ask another waiter and they brought it to me, my waiter seemed to have forgotten, which seems to be the norm for this restuarant. What is difficult, is I enjoy their food and wine selection, but I can't stand poor service, and the inability to keep up with the times and have staff who just deliver food and take care of other issues is unexceptable. Examples of great service in the area are Axel's Bonfire's and Billy's. Billy's who after years of poor service caught on to the trend of timely service for food.
I have also seen the wait staff standing around talking, chatting, even smoking while I am waiting for mine to come back because I need something and I have not seen them in 15 minutes. Almost every time I go there I have to get up to hunt down my server, or ask another server to find mine because they disappear off the planet. I never recommend for anyone to go there and would never bring customers. I always try to plan on having good service when I do chose to go, but so far, nada, not once. Even after complaining, we went back and again received crappy service.
This place needs to check into customer service and adjust accordingly.
great happy hour. nice room o.k. service(we were there at shift change) good food. good bar area great appitizers, nice cold beer
Friendly staff, beautiful restaurant, and delicious food creations. After going back to the restuarant, it looks completely different. the staff was super friendly and made sure i got everything i could've wanted. The decor is warm and welcoming and has lots of dirfferent seating options around the restuarant. I've also had lots of fun there at night lately. the karaoke on thursday nite is my favorite. About the food, some of the dishes are quite large, but the flavor is unlike anywhere else. The BBQ chicken i had was the best i've ever had! You gotta try this place if you haven't already. I really felt at home there. i don't understand what kind of person gave them a bad rating, the staff completely took care of me!
COLD FOOD. WE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO VISIT THE RESTAURANT ON DECEMBER 9. I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE QUALITY OF THE FOOD. WE BOTH HAD THE BOURBON CHICKEN , THE FOOD WAS COLD UPON ARRIVAL. WHEN ASKING A WAITRESS TO HAVE SOMEONE WARM THE FOOD BACK UP, SHE SAID SHE WOULD BE RIGHT WITH US, HOWEVER SHE NEVER CAME BACK UNITL WE RECIEVED OUR BILL. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT TO ANYONE FOR A DINING EXPERIENCE!!!!
the biscuits. the biscuits are delicious. but, whatever you do, don't eat them. word on the street is, each one has over 1000 calories. oy. the food there isn't my favorite but they hire really, nice, cute servers. that should count for something, right?
Don't bother!. We decide to stop back, after 5 years. The smell of sour bar rags on arrival still exists. We were seated outside, a TIGHT table for 2. Requested a different table. Ordered apps. Is it routine to bring the food first and then the silverware? Chix quesadilla with sour fermenting pineapple salsa. Returned it for fermenting reg salsa. Also ordered coconut chix w/ grey puopon mustard??? Not plum sauce?? They were OK. Ordered gumbo. Husband liked it but by that time, I decided it was Alpo like. We had to ask to have the quesadilla w/ twice bad salsa removed from the bill. Requested to talk to the manager who agreed the salsa was old. We also suggested the seating was way too tight. Let's just say we WILL NOT be back.
This Confederate outpost boasts portions as big as Tara..
Haute cuisine? Hardly. Just hearty, semi-authentic Southern food with friendly service in a fun restaurant and bar--lots of neon, noise, Southern-state flags and swirling ceiling fans. Couples and friends sway to the recorded zydeco and watch a toy train circle the bar. Ribs teeter off plates and are available in various combos. Platters like chicken-fried steak and smoked prime rib are served true Southern style with sides of black-eyed peas, green beans and skin-on fries.
Stuff'em in anywhere you can. Went to Dixie's for Mothe's day brunch, boy was it a zoo!! Tables smashed against eachother like they were hurting for money. The table we were seated at was tight but bearable, unlike the table next to ours where 3 sets of people were sat and then left due to the tightness of the tables. The food was average at best, for brunch I was expecting a huge spread but they only had a about 9 items plus a mediocre dessert set up. Service was sporadic and slow. We ordered omelets from the server and they didn't arrive until we were ready to plunge into deserts. And for $25 a person, definitely NOT worth it.
Every year we go to Dixie's for our Annaversery and have never been disapointed.
Pork tenderloin meal was awesome it melted in your mouth did not even need a knife to cut it was so tender. The blackend cat fish was out of this world!!!, also just melted in your mouth. The steak is very tender and juicy. the smoked bbq chicken was great. and home style skin on mashed potatoe are very good. we whent for a party and the catering was great and the selection of food that was set out was plenty and was very good.
And most of all my compliments go out the best chef, my hats off to Steve A.
Bad experience. Not a friendly reception. Informed they were out of most of there wines including the feature wine of the month. Selected a wine with a vintage year of 2000. Got served a 2004. The manager said that the $28.00 price was the same for either year and said "At our level(meaning the rest level?), the year doesn't make that much difference" and walked away. We had the BBQ sampler. The ribs and chicken got away from the cook, They were burnt black. Food was not fresh. There are so many great restaurants, especially on Grand. This was not one that night. Not interested in going back.
