I've been going to Billy's for a long time now. Most of the staff is friendly if you're not a complete idiot waving money at them or trying screaming at them so they skip all their other customers and come immediately to you. The food is mediocre at best, but there are some redeeming selections. A few, at least. The chicken strawberry salad is really good and there are a few sandwiches. The ribs are a great deal -- a half rack is like 14 bucks and the ribs are very good and come with about a day's worth of food.
Yeah some of the waits are poor but seriously, I've seen the types that hate a place like Billy's, and sometimes I don't blame the servers for rolling their eyes at the stupid things customers say and want. The other day I overheard a woman (and this is while the place is packed) ask for new food because her sandwich and fries were touching on the plate. Ugh. Some of the bartenders and servers are very nice and good at their job, but, people, this is St. Paul: rude customers get treated in kind here. That's just how it is. So if you're the one screaming for the server/bartender's attention and then get angry when the server/bartender has an attitude, then just shut up and leave. You're not wanted.
- Pros: Strong drinks. Some surprising food.
- Cons: Some bad servers.
terrible customer service

I had to return my food 3 times because the bread was hard, the salad was brown and the vegetables were dried up. the waitress was very sarcastic and rude and tried to convince me there was nothing wrong with the food and I was the first person in 7 years to return my food. when I asked to talk to a manager, she refused and said she was the acting manager. when I contacted Billys they never got back to me. I will always remember this experience and tell people about it.
Terrible Twin Cities Lunch Destination
by dumbellsandgunbelts at Citysearch
I consider myself a local expert on lunch hot spots. Billy's on Grand is incredibly subpar. I'd explain the whole thing, but there is an article in the Minneapolis Examiner that explains is well. To find it - Google search: "Twin Cities Worst Lunch Spots: Billy's on Grand". Should be the first link.
- Pros: Patio
- Cons: Everything else
