A True Gem.
Since I was a kid in the 70's, I've watched Thomas Liquors transform itself from a non-descript corner liquor store to a wonderful wine shop. I almost added the adjective "neighborhood", but once people get to know Thomas, they'll travel miles to shop there.
It's a family owned business and on a typical day, it's not unusual to have son Mike working the aisles with wine recommendations and tastings, while mom Judy and dad Jim are at the register. They've got a knowledgeable, service-oriented loyal staff and the vibe is always positive.
If you're not the type to ask for recommendation, there are plenty of reviews and other point-of-sale tools to help you make a reasonably informed decision. With so many wine selections, and not as much time or money as we may like to try them all, the guidance is welcome.
When it comes to pricing, I always found Thomas to be very fair. There are frequently sale wines at every price point. Of course, they offer a case discount. When the big local chains (i. e. Haskells, Surdyks) have their most agressive sales, you can bet that Thomas will not lose out to their competitors - you will likely find an all-wines sale at this Grand Ave store.
If you're not into wines, not to worry, they are a full service liquor store including a nice beer selection.
Cheers!
Thomas Liquors. This place is awesome. This is a liquor store the way it should be! The staff is awesome, the wine selection is top class, and the beer list is second to none. What's more, if they don't have what you're looking for, they will make every effort to get it for you if you ask. And of course, the prices are good. What more could you ask for?
From connoisseurs to quick-stop shoppers, this friendly family-owned liquor store aims to please..
In Short
Since the 1990s, St. Paul's Grand Avenue has seen a string of long-running family businesses replaced by chic corporate competitors. Luckily for local residents with a grown-up thirst and a legal ID, this former pharmacy on the west end of the historic street has survived, providing a hearty selection of wine, beers and spirits for more than 50 years. From shotgun-ready six packs to superior sake and solid wines from around the globe, Thomas offers a range of good stuff, cheap stuff and everything in-between, plus a knowledgeable staff who can help you pick out a Malbec without boring you to tears.
