Editorial Review for The Wedding Shoppe – by Amie Duhamel

In Short
The Shoppe occupies a cute old home whose top floor is dedicated to bridal attire. It's usually staffed to provide one-on-one consultations, but be warned: Saturdays are wild, wild, wild. Expect modish, new styles from the collections of 50-odd designers (mostly second-stringers such as Mori Lee, Marisa and Sweetheart). The bridesmaids' department is stocked with standard two-piece taffetas and full-length sheaths. Mix and match these with the goods in the accessories department.

Save Money

The staff members are the first to admit that they shop the high-end gown boutiques, then find designs that are similar in style but much lower in price.

The Extras

The Shoppe also carries flower girl dresses, mother-of-the-bride gowns, guest books, pens, unity candles, etc.

I am sharing this experience so other women are aware of what could happen at the Wedding Shoppe. This may be a little long winded, but I want you to hear the entire story. About 3 months prior to my wedding I began my dress fittings, which is usually the recommended time. 4 fittings later. The satin on the 2 seams going down the front of my dress had been stretched out and completely ruined (it looked like ripples going down the dress and this was very noticeable). They had opened and reopened the dress so many times, the satin was limp and stretched out. Now keep in mind, I was not asking for a miracle - these were simple alterations at the bust line and should have been done right the first, maybe the second time. If I would have known the alterations would have been this way, I would have chosen a different dress! I contacted the "manager" who was very defensive when I told her what had happened and that my wedding was now less than 3 weeks away and I did not have a beautiful dress to wear. The dress was paid in full and I was SOL at this point. They would not accommodate me in anyway after the dress was trashed. When I went to go look at it after they "repaired" it, the dress was a stiff as a board which was a good way to cover up the damage they had created on the seams. I had no energy left in me to put up a fight - I had been defeated and as a result had this dress that I could not wear. I started to panic and knew there was not enough time to order a dress, so I went to Brides Of France in Uptown. One word - AMAZING. The store manager gave me a hug as I was in tears and promised we would find a dress that would be perfect. She did and I wished I would have gone their first. I felt wonderful on my wedding day! There are many other lovely bridal shops to visit in MN - I would not recommend The Wedding Shoppe as one of them. Brides of France is a wonderful store with amazing customer service - it’s this little hidden gem that saved my wedding day!

Pros: They were close to my home

Cons: Horrible alteration department and customer service

After going to several dress shops and never thinking I was going to find a dress, I finally found the dress of my dreams at The Wedding Shoppe. I went on a Thursday night and it was rather busy, but the service I recieved was terrific. The sales lady knew exactly what to pull for me and was so helpful in finding me the right dress. I really felt a connection with my sales lady and I could tell she was not just trying to sell me a dress. She was interested in my wedding and how I wanted to look on my day. This store is awesome. I liked how they had beautiful dresses and they were reasonable in price. This is was shopping should be like. I am so happy I found my dress. Once more thing checked off the neverending list!
