45.029339 -93.017860truly bad food. I hadn't been here in several years and decided to eat here the other night and now that I have, I can cross it off my prospective dining list for good. Where to start: I tried many of the dishes and they all tasted exactly the same, didn't matter if it was beef, chicken or fish - they were all bland and tasteless. Some even had a funky swill like after taste. The peel and eat shrimp was tasteless and it was like eating foam rubber because of the texture. I don't expect fine cuisine at a buffet but I don't expect to want to purge myself when I leave the place either. Makes me nauseous just writing this review.
Great Moon Buffet is worth the trip!. I have been going to the Great Moon Buffet in Maplewood for about 5 years. I travel from the south suburbs to go when I do and it is worth the trip. Weekend prices are pretty high, but during the weekdays is pretty reasonable. Great selection and authentic foods. I agree with the previous comment that it would be nice to have a few more vegetarian selections for the 10% of Twin Cities eaters that are in fact vegetarian. Perhaps some veggie egg rolls, fried tofu (I can get the plain stuff at the grocery). And what are those orange patties with sesame seeds on them? It would be nice to know - when I eat them, I find it rather odd and strangely tasty. Great Moon Buffet is sure to be a favorite for everyone in the family, even the vegetarians.
One of the best asian buffets around.
Fantastic warmth of food. Great service and atmosphere. Be wary of the jello bananas, can be very slippery. The fresh fruit was an awesome surprise, I did not expect delicious fruit out of a asian buffet. Great presentation of salad bar, almost too good. Very festive decorations, I felt as though I was in China. Lots of asians dining so you know its good. Good pickles.
Con: NO GENERAL TSO CHICKEN!!! Very disappointed.
Kind of weird drink system, I was not a fan.
I agree with my fellow reviewee, the lo-mein was sub-par.
They also left the core in the pineapple-a minor setback to a wonderful dinner.
Also had a bad experience with one rogue grape, avoid soy sauce with grapes too.
Sushi and shrimp available from 5-7
Best place. Best buffet place to go if you're searching around for somewhere to stuff your face. Staying in the long lines is really something though.
Popular Saturday Nights. The line was out the door on a Saturday night. The food is very, very fresh and replenished constantly. I didn't like the lo-mein, but everything else was very tasty.
Love It.
Any time I'm in town, I make a trip to the Great Moon high on my list.
The food is so fresh and the variety of selections is quite impressive.
The servers are constantly cleaning up the serving area; and are also very attentive to the needs of the diners.
It's a great value, since it's a buffet and you can return as many times as you wish. I try not to overdo it, however. I don't want to ever get burned out on the experience of the Great Moon!
Warning!!!!! Nail is in the food.. I often go there. Today, I went there and found nail in the food. I complained and told manager to give me money back. They said they can not. I had to ague with her for an hour and still she did not sorry and did not return money back. This all experience ruined my dinner time. They kept serving food in which I found nail. Restaurant does not know how to make customer safe and feel good. Their food is dangerous. Seriously, dangerous. If I ate that nail, I would be in hospital by now. So do not go there if you do not want to hurt yourself.
Excellent buffet. Every dish is extremely delicious - best mai fun anywhere, best hot-sour soup, best crab-cream cheese wonton, mussels in black bean sauce, the list goes on and on.
Terrible for vegetarians. You'd think at a place as vast as this, that they'd manage to have at least one vegetarian thing other than greasy, tasteless string beans and a salad bar. How hard would it have been to put out vegetarian fried rice, something with tofu or a vegetarian egg roll?
Right amount of authenticity. If you have been to many Chinese buffet restaurants, you may notice that many of them serve food that can no longer be considered as authentic Chinese food. This restaurant is different. The choices are simple (as many would expect from a Buffet menu) but also authentic. BTW, The roast duck is one of the best in town.
