Not to home Made Any More. The Bread is no longer Homemade. They get it shipped in frozen. Servers are frantic. Manager never came back to talk to me about the meal that was just plain bad! I can't believe they have been open this long. Where did the down home Family loving place go????
Minneapolis chain serving lumberjack platters of home-style Midwestern food since 1973..
In Short
Nothing fancy, just lots of it (there must be three potatoes in a plate of American fries). A perennial staple of local "best breakfast" lists, Keys slings hash (roast beef or sausage), steak and eggs, omelets and pancakes (blueberry-bran, raisin-pecan). Besides breakfast, Keys serves burgers, hot and cold sandwiches and motherly comforts such as turkey and meat loaf. In case you want something sweet, the bakery turns out mammoth cookies, pies, caramel rolls and cakes.
If you have a big appetite, this place is where you're looking. There was nothing fancy about Keys, it is just your average run of the mill diner. Their breakfast was delicious and there was a lot of it. If you have a big appetite and want a hardy meal this place is exactly where you want to go. The service is great but it can get a bit crowded and waiting for a seat might take some time, but if you have the time you won't be dissappointed with the food.
Quality & Service has taken a severe nose-dive. My family has come to the conclusion that this particular cafe is resting on it's former reputation. The service has been extremely slow, the quality of the food (with the exception of the homemade bread) has really taken a back seat to what it used to be. I won't recommend this restaurant to anyone, anymore. It is disappointing for me to cross this old favorite off of my list.
Keys White Bear Lake Manager Too Busy To. As long time regulars, we've seen a steady decline in service and quality over the past two years. Tonight's meal was by far the worst. The salad was served wet (at least they washed the lettuce) swimming in a pool of watered down dressing that had washed off the lettuce. The spaghetti wasn't drained and was closer to an orange colored soup with pasta floating in it. The garlic toast (toasted one side only) was water logged from sitting in the water and, to top it off, the manager was too busy to talk to us about this. Unless you're starving, avoid this restaurant.
bedfelllow. As they say you get what you pay for. And Keys is I think fairly inexpensive for the amount of food you get, Great hashbrowns and lots of them.
