Tips for Sunbear Salon & Medical Spa

March 25, 2013

Kim Hanson did my hair and was awesome. Have been looking for someone new since my person moved away. I'll admit that I tend to be very picky about how my hair gets done. Kim was awesome and I'll definetly be going back!

Positives: Facial and peel services. So-so: Fantastic cut and foil? No. I go elsewhere now.

Failure: PASS on this place for Permanent Makeup "artist". Even after I handed her an example of the shape of what my eyebrow correction should resemble the woman had NO idea how to do it. Thank god she only attempted a ball point pen sketch and never tattoed my eyebrow correction because she's completely lost.

AWKWARD: Descending the steps into the center of the salon after peel or otherwise embarrassing condition. WHY can't you pay upstairs and use an alternate exit? Terrible!

What's up With: Raising the prices?

Short Hair Queen!!!. If you have short hair this chick can rock it. I was referred by one of my coworkers who has been going to Samantha for years. I have been in and out of a lot of salons trying to find someone who could cut my short hair. Her fun energy really made me excited about my new cut and I was shocked by all the compliments. Can't wait to go back!!

No 100% Guarantee: Won't be Returning-Bad Customer Service. We gave this salon one more chance with our hair. I will tell you it was the worse foil job I have gotten in years. Then when I went back to voice my concern, I was the victim. I was told," Absolutely no refund would be given to me." What ever happened to kindness, listening to your customer, perhaps your stylist was having a bad day and did not do a good foil job. I will be telling many friends etc...about the poor customer service I received and the lack of listening. Emily the manager really could have cared less if I was happy with the work that was done on my hair. Happy Birthday to Me. I will not be returning and suggest that you not either especially Kim H. Kim does not listen to her customer, I read other reviews and was sucked in. I wonder if Kim herself wrote those reviews because her work does not reflect these comments. It is sad when a fancy business establishment like this has such sucky customer service. Perhaps they all need to look up what karma means and do an act of kindness.

Coloring disaster. Fancy salon, but not worth it. I took myself to another salon and spent more money to have my hair re-done. I had outgrowth over 1 inch as if color was never processed properly on my hair!

Will Travel Many Miles for Kim H!. The hair is the richest ornament of women.

~Martin Luther

Let me start off by saying, I know good hair and know it well. As the daughter of a fabulous and talented hair stylist (who eventually made me go to someone else subsequent to years of creating too much stress in my quest for hair perfection ;)), the need for well cut, well colored hair is ingrained in my DNA.

I first went to Kim several years ago after falling in love with the Sunbear during preparation for a friend's wedding. In fact, all the services at Sunbear, in the salon and spa are fantastic with many talented artists. They know what they are doing!

I have lived in Iowa, New Jersey, and Chicago since my first experience AND STILL COME BACK TO SEE KIM. There have been a series of desperate root emergencies in which I was forced (but willing) to pay absurd amounts of money, mainly on the east coast and in Chicago, for full and partial foils and have been extremely disappointed by the lack of quality I have received in comparison to Kim. She is an excellent colorist. I would trust her 100% to do anything she wanted to my hair. Having naturally very dark hair and going to light blonde and everything in between, Kim has successfully made my hair look natural and beautiful. Every time she does my hair, my mom (the stylist) is extremely impressed by her technique and result, as am I of course! I have lost count of the number of times I have flown back to MN to see Kim, but she truly has never disappointed me.

Besides being a stellar stylist, colorist, beautifier extraordinaire, Kim is AWESOME. She is now someone I consider a very good friend after talking for many hours in her chair. I'm so lucky to have found her!

Kim Hanson makes my whole family smile!. We just moved to the Twin Cities area and I was devastated to leave behind the man who had done my hair for 20 years. However, after calling Sunbear based on reviews, I hit the jackpot when they randomly gave me an appointment with Kim.

First, Kim is very talented and intuitive. She honestly helps you assess what you are looking for and then delivers a beautiful cut and color. She has given me a confidence in my hair that I didn't even know was missing. She is also a genuinely wonderful person. I have been so pleased with her work that I have even begun taking my very picky 12 and 13 year old daughters to her. They think she is phenominal! If you are truly looking for a great stylist, Kim gets my vote. She listens, communicates and really works magic with a razor and scissor. So glad that we have been blessed with her!

TRANQUIL....THE BEST. I have been going to Sunbear for over 10 years and have never had anything but great experiences. Walking into Sunbear instantly relaxes me, the decor and atmosphere is so tranquil , my appointments are my time to relax and enjoy a little non-mommy time and I'm never disappointed with my experience.

I go to Sunbear for many services and can't say anything but great things about everyone that works there, even the stylists who I don't go to recognize me and say hello, the receptionists are so friendly and you'll always get a warm welcome from them and they are always happy to assist with products and give helpful informaiton to make sure you buy the right product for your hair type, it is obvious they have been educated on the products, and finally the management is so professional and it is apparent by the many enjoyable experiences I have had as a client at Sunbear.

I have recommended Sunbear to many of my friends and family and all of them have become devoted clients like myself, many of them can't believe that we have a Salon & Spa like Sunbear in our little town of White Bear Lake, offering services and products that are top notch and not found even in many of the "Downtown" salons and spas.

You won't be disappointed if you try Sunbear, I can guarantee you'll want to go back as often and as soon as possible. Thank you Sunbear for giving me a tranquil retreat where no one can call me Mom, I can't wait for next appointment.

See ya!. In the last few years Sunbear Salon has expanded services, remodeled their building, and started marketing to a more upscale clientele. There is nothing upscale, however, about their lack of customer service and unprofessional demeanor.

Recently, friends of mine who were long-time patrons of the salon have started to take their business elsewhere due to price increases and declining customer service. Today, I decided to give them one last shot and scheduled an eyebrow wax.

While the receptionist was friendly, I waited 20 minutes without anyone acknowledging the long delay. I approached the counter at which time the receptionist informed me that Ann had taken another client, even though I arrived to my appointment on time. I waited 10 more minutes for Ann in the lobby (I really needed a wax!), at which point she briskly greeted me and brushed off the fact that I had now been waiting half an hour. Once we had our consultation, she informed me that because I use a retinal cream, she was hesitant to wax my brows. I informed her that I had been using the cream for 8 months and had many eyebrow waxes since starting the cream. At this point I was ready to get out of there and suggested that I could get a wax somewhere else. She quickly interjected that she was refusing ME service, to which I should have responded, "No. I am refusing YOU." I left and will not be returning.

In this economic climate, no business can afford to provide second-rate customer service. If Sunbear wants to stay on top, customer service and professionalism come first.

It is unfortunate to hear about your experience, as we take customer service seriously and pride ourselves on the highest standards in guest experience. Please accept our sincerest apologies. It is our policy not to provide waxing services when certain types of retinol products are used due to the possibility of injury to the skin. We would never want to jeopardize the integrity of our business, our reputation for attention to detail and the safety of our guests. We have spent the last 3 years remodeling to accommodate staff and our guests so everyone may enjoy a beautiful experience. However, we consciously made a decision not to raise our massage and facial prices over the last 11 years. Our latest price increase for waxing services were slightly adjusted 4 years ago to accommodate for better product as we only use the highest quality and believe this is essential to the outcome of the services. We will use this information as we are always seeking ways to excel in customer service.

Kim has been doing my hair for several years, as well as my daughters and every time, every time I leave the salon I am very happy with the job that Kim has done.
