Excellent Food
by Alyj13 at Citysearch
I'm a frequent customer at House of Wong and have been for many years. The food may be more americanized but if you take a look around most of the people who live in the area want that kind of food. The food is always much quicker than most restuarants you go to. I've gone to Old Chicago and waited like 40 minutes for my meal, whereas everytime I go to House of Wong my meal is usually up within 10-15 minutes. I have never had a bad experience with a server there. The sunday crew is especially friendly... my husband and I enjoy seeing our favorite servers there. The portions are huge for the money you pay. The french silk pie isn't really french silk, but it still tastes good. It is really a good family place to go. The servers have such good rapport with the customers. They know most of the customers by name. It's still our favorite place to go :)
- Pros: Friendly servers, quick and yummy food
- Cons: music and bathrooms
AWESOME food, FAST and MORE than enough food!

I have been going to House of Wong since I was a child and the food is EXCELLENT! It hasn't changed one bit over the years, with the exception of the price. You get an excellent meal, large portion (you always have enough to take home), the food is always fresh and hot, the servers are efficient and your food is out within minutes. Anyone who says this place is bad, should go to one of those scary Chinese restaurants where you don't know what kind of meat they are serving or how clean the kitchen is. You don't have to worry about that here.
Yes, HOW has American food, so they cater to everyone, but I always get Chinese. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu and don't forget to get the egg rolls--they are the best! I have NEVER had bad service and I've been coming here for over 30 years. Kudos to Mr. Wong and the staff at this awesome establishment.
- Pros: Portions, selection, quality, service, promptness
- Cons: Lots of older people
Decent but not the best

The food is okay, but not something I would absolutely have to have again. To say its the best you've ever had means you haven't been to enough 'authentic' Chinese restaurants.
House of Wong isn't really a Chinese restaurant, to say that it is 1/2 American and 1/2 Chinese rather deceiving, the menu is not even close to being 1/2 Chinese.
But you have to consider the demographic of the majority of house of Wong's customers. House of Wong targets Caucasians. You can tell by the architecture and layout of the restaurant. The way the booths are designed and how much oriental decorations are displayed in the store.
The music is outdated but I think its to cater to the older people that patron their restaurant. Puts me to sleep in my opinion but this is coming from someone that is 40-50 years younger than their target demographics. Its a good place to take your grandparents after church or whatever..
Every time I go there I seem to be a minority and I seldom see other Asians eat there.
Anyways, the pies are good. I like the french silk pie, add some strawberries.
The servers are okay, it depends on who you get. Its easy to tell who isn't genuine because fake acts of hospitality are easy to smell out. Some of them are really nice like Liz and Steph. [Not sure if they if they still work there]
- Pros: Huge parking and great pies.
- Cons: More American food than Authentic, music is annoying.
Used to be a fan, not any more.

I used to love house of wong's food, but the quality has changed drestically over the years. I ordered take out a few months back since I hadnt eaten there for about a year. I was incredibly dispointed with my food. The chicken was grizly and cold, and the sauce was bland. The staff was incredibly rude and acted as though it was an inconvenience to serve me.
When I called in my order I was told it would be twenty minutes. I arrived half an hour later only to wait an addition fifteen minutes for my food. The restaurant was not as busy as it can be, so I dont understand the twenty five minute delay.
For years I split my take out between my two favorite restaurants, from now on, I'll stick to Chin's Kitchen.
- Pros: Decent Rice
- Cons: Nasty chicken, poor service
One of my favorite restaurants!

I ate quite often at the House of Wong with my family. I've grown up in roseville my entire life, and after reading reviews submitted, I do feel the need to point out that the HOW has ALWAYS been about 1/2 american and 1/2 chinese...Anyways, I really enjoyed the vast range of food choices (the beef fried rice is my favorite!) and contrary to what many users have said, I've never had a bad experience with the service at the House of Wong. The food is very reasonably priced, and especially with the American meals you get a lot (sometimes too much!) food for your money. The atmosphere is great for children, except crayons and placemats might work better to keep them occupied...I know that my wife's favorite meal is chicken chow mein, which is also excellent!
- Pros: Lots of food for the money, normally very efficient service
- Cons: Parking, music choice
