RUN DON'T WALK! Do not rent from this place – I agree with the ones that complain about this place. I lived there for two years. You are right; they are nice at first; but when you need something fixed they take forever or they won't come at all. I remember last year (2011) the hot water went out in our builidng and it took them a week to fix it. They told everyone in the building to go to the other buidlings to get hot water. Also when they sprayed because it was bug infested three of the units had more bugs after they sprayed than before they sprayed. I will never rent from them again and I would not recommend this place to any one. There is no security whatsoever in this building. Another thing about pets; yes you can have pets and like another person said the owners of the pets do not pick up after themselves and neither does the landlord/owner. Can't bbq outside of your apartment you have to go across the parking lot and bbq, your guest after 6 pm have to park acorss the street. They don't plow or sand outside of the buildings; oh wait they make sure their area is clear of snow. One time we seen people moving in and my older child said; don't do it run. Even if nothing is damage in your apartment upon leaving they still will not return your deposit. So my advice to any one thinking about renting there. DON'T DO IT!!!!. you will regret it.
younger manager making improvements – I'm a student on a tight budget, so I needed a place that was pretty inexpensive. I have a one-bedroom.
I'll be candid, this isn't the best place I've lived, but i've been here for 2 years now and the owner's son is doing a lot to make it a better place to live. A lot of the more unseemly elements have disappeared -- e.g. the drug-dealers next door got evicted last summer (the eviction notice was posted). I don't think the owner is quite all there, but his son actually seems to care about upkeep. Anytime I've spoken with him directly or on the phone about repairs, they're done within 24-48 hours. My apartment is actually pretty well-kept up, but the appliances are ancient.
I've found if you're generally law-abiding, pay your rent on time, and are firm with your requests (and make them to Jr, not to Sr), you can get along fine here.
Most of my neighbors are older folks or younger students. There are also more families with little kids then there were last year.
The parking lot is awful. It basically turns into the ten-thousand-and-first lake of Minnesota. It doesn't get properly plowed in the winter. And the parking policy way too strict for how bad the lot is. I hate having to tell guests to park across the street.
They allow pets here but not all of the residents clean up after their dogs. Fair warning.
All in all, there are probably better places to live, but the rent is cheap and i'm close to work and school.
I would live in a box before living here again – The person who gave 4 stars must be one of the owners. Every other resident I spoke to while living at Lexington Court hated it and the management. Nobody says anything to complain because everyone is scared of the owners. This is the perfect place to live if you want to live in a dirty place with lights that flicker, outlets that don't work, no upkeep, and management who won't do anything to fix any problems. The owner/manager is a creepy older man. While living here, the owner entered my apartment on more than one occasion without my permission or knowledge for no reason at all. There was never an explanation given when I asked.
I never felt safe while living here. During my time at Lexington Court, I saw many drug deals in the parking lot and outside the main doors of the buldings. I was threatened by the dealers if I said anything or called the police.
The management may seem nice at first, but that will all change starting the moment the contract is signed. I had the owner chew me out on the phone when I called to set up a time to pick up my apartment keys. The owners were then not around when I came at my scheduled time to move in. I sat outside with my moving van waiting for six hours before somebody showed up. I was also yelled at for calling the emergeny maintenance number to try to get my keys. My helpers were later yelled at for propping open the non-security outside doors while bringing in my furniture.
I never got my security deposit back. Rather, after I moved out with a proper 2-month notice, I recieved a threat to bring me to court because the owners claimed they never recieved my notice to move out that I had personally handed to them. Lucky for me, I had protected myself with very clear notes on my rent checks.
The owners of Lexington Court are crooks. Slum lord is too nice of a term to describe them and how they operate. I am serious when I say that if I had to chose between a box or Lexington Court for a home, I would choose the box without hesitation.
Horrid Place – Beware of the manager, he seems nice at first, but I'm pretty sure he might be a slum-lord. If you have a maintence concern you'd be better to fix it yourself, because he doesn't think any think needs to be fixed. He will try to get as much money out of you as he can by fees and fine or other things. Any security deposit you put down will not be returned. When you move in it will be dirty and in need of repairs. I had a frige that didn't seal properly so that a large mountain of ice formed on the door's shelf, but he claimed it was fine. Also I wasn't able to lock the doors, he told me I had to jiggle it a certain way to get it to work. The electrical outlets also sparked when you'd plug anything in and he told me to plug it in faster. Nothing was cleaned for move-in either, everything seemed to be dirty. It just not worth it.
I would live here again – I just moved out and I lived there for over 3 yrs. I moved from the east coast and wasn't familiar with the city so this ended up being the ideal location for me. Its close to malls and equidistant from st paul and minneapolis. I never had any maintenance problems and the management was always around and helpful.
Run down building and parking lot in poor condition – I would not recommend living at Lexington Court. The management company would often take a long time to fix any maintenance concerns. On one occasion shortly after moving in, I had called for a sink that would not drain. I was told that the sink was draining just fine and there was nothing wrong. A couple days later, a plastic handle from a knfe shot out of the drain, spewing kitchen sink sludge all over the kitchen area. The parking lot has many large potholes that have been there for over a year that have been getting worse as time passes and they are not fixed.
