Editorial Review for Cecil's Delicatessen & Bakery – by Citysearch Editors
In Short
Cecil's has been in business since 1949 as a deli and opened as a restaurant about 20 years later. For breakfast, locals stop in for French toast that's thick and eggy. The grilled Reuben is legendary, and the turkey club oozes on toasty whole wheat bread is a popular choice for workers at the nearby Ford Motor Company and the College of St. Catherine. Two dozen kinds of mustard in stock at the deli.

As much as we love the bakery's cookies and other treats, Cecil's should be more careful about who they let serve customers and handle money. This employee took money and proceeded to place our food in the box bare-handed. To give him credit, he agreed that we were right about how employees should keep their hands clean/ use gloves when handling the food. Unfortunately, his poorly concealed sarcasm and chucking of the pastries into the box made him considerably less convincing. We called afterwards, asked for the manager and explained what happened. He asked when we were in the store and told us he would try to watch over the workers. No apologies offered, he didn't address the issues in any satisfactory way and hung up on us very quickly. The unsanitary way the food was handled seems to defeat the purpose of Cecil's being "kosher". Hopefully other employees are better trained because this place seems really great. I don't think we'll be going back any time soon though.

This a a great deli! I swore that after eating there I'd never make a sandwich at home again! What for? They do it better. The creamy cole slaw is addicting! If you don't order it every time you just think you have missed out the rest of the day! The best carrotcake! Of course you won't be able to eat it unless you stop for coffee, because the sandwiches are so large! A full 4 ounces of meat on every sandwich. I've been to deli's in NY and Cecil's is like walking into a NY Deli, but better because they have a restaurante, so you don't have to eat on the run. They bake fresh bread, bagels and treats every day. Their staff is friendly and helpful.
Pros: Deli has fresh Bagels, and breads every day.
Cons: Kosher meats take longer to slice, Call Ahead During Holidays!
