St. Paul >Beauty > Ficocello's Hair Salons
Not impressed. I spent $60 and 2+ hours to get highlights and my hair looks EXACTLY the same as before - can't see the highlights at all. Waste of my time and money. I won't be returning.
hair thumbs up, front desk service soso. This review is for the Advanced Training salon in St. Paul. As my stylist was finishing up my haircut, the receptionist came over to tell me to let them know in the future that my hair needs extra time...and there is a $17 charge for getting your hair flat ironed! Since the last time I went there I wasn't charged extra and didn't seem to take up more than an hour, I was surprised and a little irritated at the way she told me this information (as though I was already aware, and when I told her I wasn't, she wasn't any nicer to me). My stylist was great and took her time, telling me she should have told me before starting the flat ironing that there was an extra fee (and she made sure the receptionist didn't charge me the extra fee this time). However, I left with a bad taste in my mouth, despite the great haircut, because it was a brisk and rude way to talk to a customer. I won't be returning, because other salons I go to DO NOT charge extra to flat iron, and do not take extra time on my hair. I have been a receptionist in a salon before so I know how it is on the other side...please watch how you talk to customers and inform them of changes. I should have been told upfront, but I'm more irritated with HOW I was told.
Excellent Service!. I'm kind of a last-minute, I want to get in NOW type of girl, so sometimes I can't get in with my fav stylist. However, since they've all been through advanced training (not just licensed, but a ton more training before they're even in the salon), I know I can usually get in with someone else. What I really love about Ficocello's is that they actually LISTEN to me - they ask a bunch of questions before they even get started. I swear, even the receptionists know who I am when I walk in. Everyone is so friendly. I wouldn't trust my tresses to anyone else!
What a joke. I have dye all over my forehead and ears. As my stylist was away I had to try and wipe them off with my hands. She also didnt quote me correctly. It was absolutly ridiculous! I had to pay 100 dollars for a color I didnt ask for and walked out practically in tears. They say there is a 100 percent satisfaction garuntee but when I called, IN TEARS, and expresesd my concern to the manager she said ABSOLUTLY NO refunds. They said I have a two week period to decide if I want to go back and get my hair recolored. Will I go back, no, because if thats the kind of service I get, would it get any better the next time around after asking for a refund, my guess would be no. This was the salon in St. Anthony
I hesitate to write a bad review, but I used this site to make my decision to go to Ficocellos training salon in St. Paul, and hopefully my experience will help others make a better decision.
What I had done: Cut and color (foil and glaze)
Pros: My stylist was very sweet, and the rest of the staff was fairly professional. My cut and color did not take as long as I had anticipated (only about 2 hours). Also, reasonable prices (about $100).
Cons: Not a great result. My hair color ended up really weird. Instead of adding richness to my brown hair and throwing in some subtle caramel highlights, the stylist for some reason turned my roots an odd red shade. The ends of my hair turned out much darker, and the result is that I look like I'm going gray. It's not at all flattering on me, and it's not what I asked for (in fact, I was emphatic about not having any shade of red). The cut was just as weird. Not a terrible job - just not what I asked for and not flattering. Also, the stylist cut my bangs unreasonably short. In her defense, I didn't specify what I wanted done to them, but in my defense, I thought she would ask before she started chopping away. The other strange thing is that no one asked me for my opinion afterward. You would think that a training salon would solicit feedback. I didn't mention my unhappiness b/c 1) I figured they didn't care; and 2) there was nothing they could do about it after the fact. The final disappointment was that I left the salon with streaks of color on my forehead and cheeks. The stylist let my color drip all over my face while I was under the dryer and then didn't do much to get it off afterward. It took 3 days to wear off.
The bottom line: I won't go back, and I'm gonna need someone to fix the cut and color.
Editorial Review by Citysearch Editors. Coloring, perms, cutting and styling done by rigorously trained, no-nonsense stylists in a black-and-white salon.
I recommend the training school. Have always loved my cuts there and I am very picky. Most current techniques. The stylists are extremely friendly, and you can't go wrong because your cut is checked by a trainer. If you want to save some money and want a good cut/style, check it out.
awesome!!. First time at Ficocellos, didnt know what to expect. I went in for a new style...I had 5 or so inches cut off, and it is awesome...my stylist did the best job!! I will definetly be back!!
GREAT. I have been getting my hair done at the Academy for 5 years now by the stylists in corporate training. I pay half what other salons charge, yet the students aren't inexperienced b/c they have already beem through beauty school. The entire staff is extremely courteous. The 1 downside is if you get your hair done by a student, they need to have your hair checked by a supervisor, so you have to wait a liitle longer, and the students don't stay long, so it may be a different stylist each time.
