What People Are Saying About Caspers' Cherokee Sirloin Room

In Short – Why go downtown when you can be greeted by the friendly Casper Family, enjoy stiff drinks and partake of steaks that almost melts in your mouth (very popular steak of the millennium is aged, cooked to perfection and enough to take home for next day's lunch). If meat isn't for you, try the great seafood or a surf and turf combo. Expect to see three generations of one family patronize this spot; from prom night to anniversaries nothing says home-style comfort more than Cherokee's.
Editor's Tips
- Save Time:
- Don't mess with busy downtown traffic. Eat here before a game at the Xcel or a show at the Ordway and take cab to your event. It doesn't cost any more than parking and it let's you enjoy an extra drink or two.
- The Extras:
- Start the night right. Try the famous onion rings, made with a secret recipe, or the superb artichoke dip, served with cheese bread as you sip on something from the bar.
- What to Drink:
- Feel like you're a member of the Rat Pack when sip these perfectly mixed Manhattan.
- The Extras:
- The Steak of the Decade comes with a salad, a potato (such as the super-cheesy, no pejorative intended, au gratin), and all the crackers and breadsticks you can strip of cellophane and eat.
great lunch at CSR

Just went to lunch at CSR for an office party today. There were 7 of us in our party and we were treated great and the food was great too!! I don't know where these other reviewers are coming from. Everyone in our group liked their selection and service staff could not have been nicer. All of our party said they would be back soon especially since they gave anyone a coupon to get a free steak sandwich in the future.
Undercooked Steak

My girlfriend and I went there a couple of days ago and we ordered the most expensive steak they had.
It was way, way way, undercooked. When we cut into it in front of the waitress, she grabbed it and brought it in back to be cooked correctly. Once she brought it back a second time, we cut in to it and it was still bloody. Unbelievable. She asked if we wanted to have them recook it a third time to get it right and we just said no, could we have the check and we left.

My husband and I tried CSR last year at Lenten time because we heard that their all you can eat Walleye and shrimp on Fridays was wonderful...last year it was. We were treated wonderfully, by staff and by our server...this year...it was horrible. We had a reservation and there were people who evidentially did not and they were seated before us...When we did get seated, the "hostess" asked us if the table was fine and when I said yes she replied, "Good, because if it wasn't, you would have to wait even longer." Then the waitress, "Francesca." No smiles, she treated us like it was the biggest imposition...maybe because we only ordered water to drink...she brought my husband the wrong order and basically told him to eat it or go without. And too, the owner or whatever he was was going from table to table like everything was so wonderful. Most of the food was cold or soggy. The salad was tolerable. Needless to say we won't go there again. My husband said you could get a better meal at a saloon with a microwave sandwich and pay much less.

We live in the neighborhood and we've eaten at CSR for years. The steak was never that good, but it was nice to have a "steak house" that we could walk to.
We've tried several times after the "makeover" and just can't warm up to it. As near as we can tell, everyone quit during the remodel.
The service is not good, the food is marginal, it's very noisy and the owner (who often stops by your table) thinks everything is just wonderful.
The place is busy, I drive by it every day, but I can't believe it's because of the food...

1 star service and food at a 5 star price

1 hour and 10 minutes wait beyond our reservation time with no effort to inform us or work with us. The; food was just barely warm, salad plates and bread plates were not cleared in order to make room to serve our entrees. My dinner was handed to me over the top of my friend sitting across the table from me. Steak in one hand and baked potato in the other and no place to put it. We are pro nite regulars. For 25 years we have visited on Dec. 30 for the special menu, champagne and strolling minsrals. This time we had to ask for our champagne and then only got our glass filled if we "promised to smile". When one member said NO the owners son left without filling the glass. Now there is class for you. One member of our group never got an entree. They forgot to cook it! When they tried to hurry up a medium well steak it came to the plate brown outside, cold and bleeding red when cut. It was gross. We were seated in a raised floor area and when two different members of the group got up to visit the restroom their chairs fell backwards crashing onto the main floor. A broken ankle or leg just waiting to happen. Two of the owners were present and made no attempt to apologize or make up for our 70 minute wait or the other problems. The bartender and the server knew we were not happy and offered to buy a round of drinks because we were treated so poorly -- but the owners -- they just ignored us and tired to stay as far away from our table as possible. If you want to pay top dollar for service that is worse than a drive thru at a fast food then this would be the place for you. We paid for a portion of our tab with two $10 coupons from their Eagan store. One couple in our party had coupons because they tried to eat at the other store the previous week and had a steak they couldn't chew. New is not better and not improved in our view. No dining experience to be had. New tables and new staff - YUCK!
- Cons: Inexperienced and short staffed; cold food; slow service
