Tips for Animal Emergency Care

August 06, 2012

To: BSA1, I am sorry you think your chihuahua was overdosed on a medication. however, I do not think it is fair to imply that your dog was overdosed when comparing milliliters to milligrams. Each drug has a dosage rate that is determined by the weight of your animal. If the medication is 10mg/ml, and your pet recieved 68mls of a solution, that means she recieved 680mgs. If she was to recieve 75mgs of a solution, she would have gotten 7.5mls. This is actually an underdose, not overdose.

Unqualifed Vets and Staff--Beware!. ZERO STARS! Incompetent/Overdosed My Dog on Meds! I brought my chihuahua in for various digestive system issues. It was determined she would need to stay overnight in the hospital and recieve IV fluids and treatments. She was supposed to receive 68 ml of metronidazole but instead received 75 MG of metronidazole, a HUGE overdose. My pet already has liver issues and an overdose of metronidazole can impact the liver negatively. In addition, it can cause central nervous system issues.

When I went to pick up my dog the next morning, the vet on staff said errors happen and cited even doctor's make errors in medical clinics. Unacceptable, attitude for a "medical/veterinarian". It is not acceptable to put a person or pet in danger because of sloppy and shoddy quality work.

Beware of this clinic...if you care about your pet you will go elsewhere!

Horrible Greedy People work here. If I could give it zero stars I would. I took my cat here on a Sunday when I thought all other vets were closed and he had a bladder infection. The vet kept him all day. When we picked him up he told us how mean our cat was and that they couldn't do any tests because he wouldn't "cooperate".... um... hello, he is sick, your a stranger, and he's scared......

Even though they couldn't do any tests they still charged us almost $700 and gave us bad advice. He said to switch to all wet food immediately. My husband was leery since you are supposed to gradually switch pets food but hey he's not a vet so we did it. Well our cat got bad diarrhea all over himself and needed a bath the next day. A couple of months later he was exhibiting the same symptoms so I knew the bladder infection was back and of course it was a Sunday. I called this vet and asked if they could just give me the antibiotics and pain meds they did before but all I got was an attitude from the witch on the phone and her mantra of "we have to do tests on him" i wondered if she was referring to the same non-existent tests they charged me $700 for before???

Turns out that between the hours of 10 to 5 on Sundays Banfield vet inside Petsmart in Eagan is open so we brought him there. It was 1/8 th of the cost and they loved our cat, were very sweet to him, and sent us home with medication and a prescription for urinary tract food that ... surprise... the good vet said we should mix with his other food until he gets used to it.

Bottom line, the Animal Emergency Care clinic has a bunch of heartless, greedy, quacks working there that can't tell a cat from a dog... save your money and go somewhere else!

NEVER TAKE YOUR ANIMALS TO THIS VET!. I've had my dear kitty for ten yrs since he was 8 wks old. Healthy, obedient cat always on the same dry food and always taken care of. I first called this hospital hoping to get some answers on what I can do at home to try to help him since he suddenly was a little wobbly when he walked. The woman I talked with was very stern and didn't not let me finish explaining, she simple kept say,"WELL YOU NEED TO BRING HIM IN, BRING HIM IN, I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S WRONG." And I understand your busy and you haven't diagnosed him but the interruption and tone was totally unnecessary. His symptoms became more severe and as I hoping to bring him to a day side Vet I was too worried about waiting and causing him more pain, so I brought him into this clinic. Immediately before I checked in at the desk they took him from my arms and to their back room without asking me first or anything. By the time I was checked-in and in a room waiting for my baby, the vet came in very calm and started talking to me without my cat in the room. Before she could finish I demanded to see him because naturally your animal depends on you and in severe cases as such would want to be with his owner whenever possible. She said," Oh yeah, let me grab him for ya." she came back in and explained all sorts of tests she needed to do just to figure out what was going on to make sure he didn't have "a tumor the size of his kidney" yes, she said exactly those words. Treatment for baby was much too much and I didn't want him to live a life with certain treatments and suffering because she couldn't tell entirely what was wrong with him. I wanted one more night with him so I took him home. She flew out of the room to where we were and said," I just want you to know by not doing anything tonight, your deciding his fate." It ended with me crying hysterically and telling her she's been so desensitized by her job she has no understanding whatsoever for these cases. She denied it and kept saying she does understand, but you can never understand the life of an animal you did not live with. The basics of this vet I want people aware of: she will be stern, and downright mean. The box for cremation which is tiny and white with a ziploc inside is $162.00. They will take your animal from you right away without telling you what their doing. They take about two wks for you to get the ashes of what you hope is just your animal. I have never wrote a bad review but when it comes to something I love and being treated so negatively and greedily I want other people to know to take their animals to a more trusted and knowledge vet. Make sure to give your animals all the love and time you can, you never know when something might strike up.

Emergency weekend. The entire staff at this emergency facilty was dedicated to saving my pet when he was so ill. They were so caring and professional. I would recommend their hospital to all pet owners who need help with their pets on the weekends.
