Perfect lake getaway, in my backyard!.
I recently went on a public cruise with Al & Alma's. It was their "Sunday Signature Brunch Cruise". I live in the area and I knew of their company, but had hever been out to go on their boats. All I can say is: WOW. What a perfect weekend getaway!
The tickets were very reasonably priced considering the schmorgusboard of food they had. They had so much, I stuffed myself silly and then went back for seconds because I couldn't resist the sticky buns or the apple french toast dish.
The staff onboard were also a hoot. Always smiling, carrying on conversations with us, happy to make drinks and take away my plate(S) when I was done.
My only complaint is that is wasn't longer..do they have all day cruises?!?! I've always lived in the twin cities area, but have never been on the lake..who can afford that these days? I was so pleased with my mini stay-cation on the lake that I will definitely be coming back soon!
Al & Alma's total disdain for customer service.
We called at noon on June 7 to make reservations for that evenings cruise on Lake Minnetonka for my sister from Michigan, my wife, and me. We were assured that there was much room .available. We used two Living Social coupons and one full fare ticket. As we walked toward the boat, my sister became a victim of heat illness and due to her illness, we decided to forego the cruise and get her comfortable and seek medical assistance if the need became apparent. While I went to get the car to pick up my sister, my wife walked to Al & Alma's to inform them of the turn of events. Instead of offering to call to the boat or offer any assistance, my wife was instructed to walk back down to the boat and report it to the captain. The captain was ungracious and was told she could get a voucher for the full fare but we would have to forego any reversal of the usage of the Living Social vouchers.
The parking attendant was rude and abrasive and just gave the impression of an unmanneredly rogue who had never been taught proper manners nor customer service that would be contribute to customer loyalty The club staff was rude as we asked for a table to have some iced tea while waiting the 75 minutes for the departure. It was 102 degrees at this time and it was a most uncomfortable wait. Only two other tables were occupied and one customer was at the bar. Needless to say on a steamy hot day with more staff standing around than customers, we expected some evidence of business propriety in a lackluster economic period. Mc Donald's puts this group to shame. I would urge all to consider a different venue if desiring a Lake Minnetonka voyage. Needless to say, we will urge all who we know to do the same.
Don't Waste Your Time Or Money.
There's no such thing as a perfect business. But when a business makes a mistake, its response speaks volumes about its level of customer service and accountability. Al and Alma's fails embarrassingly on both points. And given the importance of supporting local businesses, it's a sad thing to see.
Particularly when it is a scheduling calender for events, the information and advertised services on a company's website must be factual and accurate. Without this, planning events for family and business colleagues becomes absolutely chaotic. Such was our experience when attempting to bring together 4 different parties for a boat tour based on incorrect information posted on Al and Alma's website.
Rather than promptly correcting the online information, taking responsibility for their mistake and honoring what was advertised, Jay (manager) couldn't have been more arrogant. He belittled the fact that plans had been put together over the course of three weeks based upon their website's misinformation. Either this company has no customer service philosophy, or they enable an insulting manager; he actually claimed that our grievance was somehow an attempt to "take advantage" of them. In most organizations, this kind of ludicrous behavior results in termination.
Upshot? By all means, be a loyal customer of local business. They deserve your support. But horrid customer service is not to be tolerated: whether the owners are next-door neighbors or corporate shareholders located overseas. In this case, take your family and business colleagues elsewhere.
Yum Yum. Great food & service! gets really busy in the summer, but the winter time is the best time to go!! the owner does a wonderful job decorating and the service is always great! never have to complain :)
Al & Alma's is an excellent choice!. Al & Alma's restaurant is a perfect choice if you want a quiet and relaxed atmosphere, good food, and wonderful service. The charter cruise boats are great as well --Make sure to get reservations asap-they fill up quick! I would definitely recommend Al & Alma's for any event/occasion.
good food, great service. Al & Almas has been my favorite place to go to eat & drink this summer. The food is delicious and the service is sharp. You can go by boat, on lake Minnetonka, or by car. Their dinner cruises are perfect for any special occasion, & being that they have the biggest and best fleet on the lake it is a no-brainer to choose this quaint supper club.
