Tips for Ron's Mechanical

They have been coming to my house in Bloomington to service my furnace and AC as part of a service program through Xcel Energy. They have always been on time, done the work properly and left no mess. They have kept my 20 year old furnace and AC running for many years and I have only positive things to say about them. :-)

Worst service I have ever seen. We just bought a home back in August, so it is not even a year old yet and we have had numerous problems with our furnace/air conditioning. In the winter something wasn't installed properly so the furnace stopped working and now in the summer within 2 weeks of each other we have had water leak from the air conditioner unit, but no one would come out.

The first time we called a few weeks ago it was about 6:30pm so we had to call the emergency number because it was after hours and we had water leaking through our ceiling into our kitchen. This is what we thought to be an emergency but they would not come out!! Instead we were told by the guy we spoke to that he would pass the information along and someone would be out first thing in the morning. When asked what we should do about this problem so it did not continue to leak he said to just keep the air running. Now, I'm no expert but how would that prevent any further damage if you keep the unit running...that is still leaking... I didn't think it sounded right so I turned the air off and turned the fan on from auto to hopefully dry it out.

The next morning we waited for a call and no such call came. My husband had to call them, around 10:00 or so. When he spoke to the receptionist on the phone she had no records of anything!! They guy didn't even pass along the information on what was happening. My husband spoke to one of the supervisors and how the guy from last night told him to just keep it running, the supervisor told my husband that he found it surprising that the guy told us that because he had been with the company for 20 years, he then proceeded to my husband that we should have it off with only the fan running. Turns out I was right. They sent someone out later but not before they told us no one could come out until the next day. Funny how we were told someone would be out in the morning once he passed the information along.

Tonight, I noticed that it was leaking through the ceiling AGAIN!! But this time it had spread to another area on the ceiling as well. My husband once again called the emergency number. Again, EMERGENCY number, does the furnace have to be on fire before they come out!? When he told him what was going on he did not even say anything on how to fix it. He was then slightly rude and said that he doesn't consider that an emergency... My husband replied to him saying that water is leaking through the ceiling, it is an emergency to us. He was told he would be called back. He called back and said they would not come out. My husband wanted to speak with the man he talked to so he could tell him what was going on and that we wanted someone to come now. The guy avoided answering as well as to who was going to pay to repair the damage done to the ceiling since they would not come out to stop it from leaking. By this point he was getting really irritated and said that he would keep calling until he could speak to the man he talked to. The only thing the guy said about it leaking through the ceiling and what to do to stop it... keep it running or turn it off and said have a nice night and hung up on my husband! When my husband called back he ignored his call and then turned his phone off! Are you serious? Funny thing is, their moto is "Bid every job as if it were your own home" HA! Overall, not impressed at all, why bother having an emergency number if the guy who is suppose to respond to problems is too LAZY to come out and fix it!?

won't back up lousy service. we didn't pick Ron's by choice...they are contracted through local gas/electrial company to provide repair if we pay monthly for preventative maintenance and unexpected issues. well they came by to provide preventative maintenance and are supposed to check off on everything on the check off list provided by the gas/electrical company. well they didn't do everything on the check off list and 2 months later the furance broke down also causing damage to another area of the house. we called to speak to Ron's and they said the break down of the furnace was not their fault and that they wouldn't cover the service nor the other damages. they actually laughed at this suggestion! this was easily preventable on their part if they would have done everything that was supposed to be done on the check off list. in this time of economic hardship, you would think a local company would stand by their work and provide better customer service.

User review by tksmooth. I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you for the service that I received Memorial Weekend (Friday) from everyone at your office. Not only was I in desperate need of getting my air conditioner fixed (and ultimately we found out, completely replaced), but 3 people came to our house, on the Friday before Memorial Day, to make sure the job was completed. It is hard to put into words how extremely grateful that my family (1 year old, 3 year old, and pregnant wife) was for your service.

Ron, the owner, can was there in the afternoon to install the new compressor, and the weather over the 3 day holiday weekend reached 96 degrees. Had this AC unit not been replaced, we were in serious trouble, and probably wouldnt have spent much time at our house over the long weekend. EXCELLENT JOB!
