Wonderful Experience. I was blown away! Best steak I've ever had. Our server told us they only serve prime and all steaks are cut in-house. It was very busy and that added to the charm. Loved the new decor and the white table cloths give the dining room a rich feel. Our cocktails were very ample, the new Captains Wine List was impressive and the pricing on higher end wines were almost a $100 a bottle cheaper than other steakhouses in town. Our server could not have been more attentive and knowledgable. One member of our party wanted a hamburger from the bar menu and reported that it was the best one he's ever had. Found out Gianni's grinds their own hamburger from the steak trimmings. We tried some of the new desserts and loved the Italian Panacotta with sea salt caramel topping. The buzz around town is that Gianni's is rejuvenated in large part to the new owner. I'd highly recommend this restaurant. Great experience. I can hardly wait to try them for lunch.
Probably won't go back.
Let me list the good first...The wait person was wonderful. She was very friendly and helpful. Also, the salad made at the table was very good.
Now, the not so good. Had reservations on a very busy night. Very busy and crowded that night and all the people waiting were stuffed at the front of the restaurant. To add to that the wait staff or bus people were winding through the waiting mass of people with their huge trays. Very strange. To add to that madness, the person seating approached us 4 or 5 times saying our table was almost ready. Finally, we were seated. Not a bad meal, it was just okay. Too expensive for such a noisy, poorly run restaurant.
Ouch!!!!. Only go if you like overpriced, mediocre food and being abused by the wait staff! At our table of 4, when the assistant to our waiter brought our food out, a couple of itmes were missing. When we relayed this to her, she threw her hands up, said "I just deliver the food!" and walked away before we could say anything more. We heard nothing for a while, she finally came back with the miss ing items and was extremely rude again. For as much money as wepaid, we did not deserve such rude treatment. We won't be going back.
Fabulous. After reading reviews, I would not have chosen this place for dinner. I was invited to an anniversary party so there was no choice. The ribeye was fabulous!! Asparagus prepared perfectly! Potatoes excellent! Cocktail? Perfect old fashioned. There were 20 in our group so a variety of foods were experienced. Everyone was extremely pleased. This is a special place, I will definitely go there again. Oh, and I have very high standards. Hands down, they passed.
Awful. The place tries to be a Mini-Manny's and completely misses the mark. It's like shooting a free throw and not hitting any rim. Runny creamed spinach, inedible clams, so-so steak, servers with a lame I-got-attitude tired game and limp expensive steaks. The playing card/ acoustical tile ceiling speaks to them just not getting it. No charm, no service, and no flavor. Why can't Wayzata get some decent food?
Major Disappointment. Diehard Manny's fan, told by numerous to try Gianni's. Man is this place overrated. Went on a Monday night, dining room was 1/3 full. Server was invisible and the "house specialty" Bone in Filet was a complete joke. Ordered it med. rare, came out burnt and medium, all this for $42. Table side salad is overrated. Tried to complain to the hostess but she was too busy clearing tables. For what is considered an upscale restaurant in an upscale area of town this place was sure a disappointment. The $200 bill didn't ease the pain any either. For this kind of quality and service you're better off going to Outback.
Best steakhouse on a lake!.
Make a reservation this summer. Right off Lake Minnetonka.
Great bar, great food, huge salads!
Great for business dinners!
Downtown Wayzata restaurant is for big appetites and big spenders..
In Short
An understated, but definite moneyed feel in the dining room includes honey-colored wood booths with etched glass panels above that separate, and velvety seat cushions below that soften. While Frank Sinatra croons over the sound system, carnivores dig into Gianni's juicy Delmonico rib eye, shrimp scampi and peppery grilled pork chops. Side orders are for sharing: mashed potatoes, cheese-stuffed hash browns.
Love it here. This is a terrific place to get a steak. Fantastic salads too. Try it out.
not worth it. This place is too overrated. The sirloin steak was tough and too well done and our prime rib was 1/2 fat. The salad was average - nothing spectacular. Certainly not worth the price. The cheese potatoes were excellent
