Consistently amazing over 20+ years we've been going.
Even in the beginning we fell in love with Hoyt's. Great food. Great service.
Pork chops to die for. Steaks are wonderful. Relish tray a great starter. If our budget says no steak tonight, the sandwiches are fabulous. Especially the pork (hint: order with a touch of cajun and have barbeque sauce on the side). Sweet potato fries best I've ever had.
Waitstaff quite wonderful, and what more can we say about Pat? Always made us feel welcome even before we got to know him.
bad experience. We split the huge breakfast, paid an extra $4 to do so, and I couldn't even eat my half. I asked for a take home container for the food I couldn't eat and was told I could not have one since the breakfast was all you can eat. We never ordered seconds. The policy was very unfriendly and we were made to feel as though we were trying to take advantage of them. We paid $19 for our breakfast and surely should have been allowed to take home what we couldn't eat. The manager did have them cook up a few hash browns and scrambled eggs after my food had been thrown away, but at that point we didn't even want it.
Next to a TittyBar? You've Got to Be Joking??.
I am a fan of reviews and am dedicated to exploring Minneapolis & St. Paul after my recent move from San Diego. This restaurant, however, is one that I will never be attending again.
Not only is it in a connecting building to a Strip joint, but I was totally unimpressed with the 'short' and rude service, the lack of any sort of upscale ambiance, high price for food that was just above OK, and all in an area where I almost felt unsafe leaving my car.
This is NOT a place for a date, business meeting, special event, or anything for that matter. Unless they change the prices and start hiring strippers to serve you, this restaurant is sadly, a complete waste of time.
top notch restaurant. We started with salads. I had classic wedge. The lettuce was crispiest ever. Wife had dinner salad, also excellant. Main course for me was pork chops with hash browns. Pork chops are to die for. Hash browns were like a mashed potatoe pattie(huge) that was way over spiced. Wife had same thoughts. Wife had scallops with agrautons(sp) that were simply fantastic. The service was the best. From owner Pat to our waitress to the valet staff. Price was $72 for the 2 of us without drinks. Will definetly be back.
The WORST steakhouse I've ever been to. While visiting Minneapolis on business, I went to this restaurant for dinner. Mistake #1. The service was horrible and by "horrible" I mean slow and rude. My waitress was so bad I had to ask for the manager - the owner came over, and spoke with her. She was worse for the rest of the meal. I travel alot with work. This was quite literally the worst service I have ever had in any steakhouse across the country. The food was not bad BUT not good for the price. The steak (10oz. filet) was dry and over cooked. I'm not from Minneapolis, but I would hope the city could offer a better choice. Next time, I'll stick with a national chain like S&W or Ruth Chris.
Classic American setting offers heavy, hearty meals from the Heartland..
In Short
Culinarily savvy owners Mike Andrews and John White made J.D. Hoyt's in the image of the classic 1950s roadhouses, complete with relish trays, garlic-cheese toast and smart servers--and named it after their dads. It's a place to sink into a padded booth, knock back a martini and savor a meal. There's prime steaks, seafood and the restaurant's signature double pork chop, grilled over charcoal and served with herb butter and Cajun or jerk spices.
Great bartender, great martinis. Excellent service and martinis. Food was OK. There were too many children for a Saturday night at a "supper club", but I only visited once.

Fantastic!. We stopped in on a Friday night to eat, and honestly, this is both my and my wifes new favorite place! I had the new york strip steak and my wife had the porkchop. Wow!!! Great food, great service and great drinks!! The atmosphere was really cool, we felt like we were pretty important people. We spent $115 on two dinners, appetizers and 4 drinks, so be prepared! (its worth it)
AWESOME!.
There is no dispute -- JD Hoyt's has the BEST pork chops I have ever tasted! It's better than any steak at Manny's, although the chops are a ton of food for one person so I would recommend splitting the pork chops and sharing a Buddy Bowl as an appetizer.
The service was also great and the owner walks around and will stop by to make sure you have everything you need.
