Horrible!!!. I always went to the gay 90's since I was 18. I'm now 23 and honestly this club use to be a fun place but the security is very rude. I like the drinks and sometime the music. The drag dancers are getting to be very lame they do the same thing over and over again. It gets boring it honestly makes you want to drink faster! I dont like the new management a tip for you new owners fire all your security staff because they are getting rid of all your regular customers. There isn't one security guard I can say I seen that is not disrespectful towards the customers... and they dont care. I want to spend my hard earned money somewhere... I'm respected and not mistreated! I havent been to the 90's since then I go to the town house!
Good for the occasional visit. For those of us who go out only on special occasions, the 90s is always a good time. The music is good, the people are there to have a good time, and there's definitely plenty to do and see in one night (especially Sundays). Even more, you're bound to run into someone you know. On a side note, the place is dirty and often crowded and the majority of people are straight or bi-curious. I couldn't imagine going to the 90s every week. But I can always expect to have a good night the few times a year I do go to the 90s.
security?. I have NEVER been talked to the way the "scrutiny" guards talkeed to me when I was outside having a smoke, they were rude and demeaning to me, cuz I'm a female? They todtallly left my husband alone, cuz he's a male?I have no problem with GBLT's, my kid is one. I loved the performers and the servers, but it seems to be the the outside scrutiny guards had a chip on their shoulder
Amazing floor show-Dancers? is that what they call them?. The showlounge has always been the entertaining part of the bar. However with all the new rules and really expensive cover fees iam afraid us long time patrons will not be returning. the new owners promised not to make alot of changes, however this is untrue. many many staff changes were made some good some bad. Over all the new owners lost allot of faith from the community because of this. The show lounge carries itself. Maybe they should consider charging for just the showlounge. My normal evenings out are Sundays, and Mondays. The bar was quite festive on Sundays, but lost it's luster after the new take over. I really trully enjoyed Monday nights because of the 2-4-1 drinks and the increadible dinner deals, and staying to listen to the great singers, during karaoke. Well they made a big mistake, making changes to that night, they have some new hosts, i think, and they play this obnoxious music between singers, it gets annoying, and alot of people just come in to sing, and like y friends and I we dont sing but since these changes, the good singers have faded away, all it is is a bunch of screaming silly drunks, with no talent, and a host that sings way too much. If someone finds out where these great singers went let me know. i wanna go there on mondays. Well as far as dancers, if thats what you call them, i have seen better performaces by cheerleaders at football games, in fact some of the dancers, look like they could pull off heals and a skirt quite nicely. Tisk Tisk, new owners, promises are made to be broken, but you shatterred alot of dreams. Im feeling a parking ramp would be more profitable in this space now.... Nice going...
IT USED TO BE A COO CLUB... NEW OWNERS NOT HOT. Well I used to go to the 90's like every weekend. But now the club is just horrible. This used to be a place where I could go and just be myself and the drinks were sooooooooooooo bomb!!!!!! Now since the new owners have came everything has changed for the worst. I'm a stud and we all of a sudden have dress code. It get annoying to be at a club and your getting your kick it on and you got bouncers coming up to you tellin you to tuck your shirts in. This used to be a club were you could express yourself through your clothes and just be chill and relaxed. Then the music is horrible, they used to play all of the new up to date music. Now they might play some up to date music, but mainly they play music that is really old. Drinks prices have went up so much. This used to be a great place for me and my friends to meet and hang out. Now really know one that I know really goes into this club anymore. I mean for me to be 25 years old I've been coming there for years. And so have a lot of people I know. Now we have taken our business some place else. Maybe you shoul re hire the old owner back. Don't think it was a smart idea to have a straight owner try an run a gay club.
What Used to Glitter Is No Longer Gold. You Be The Judge.. For starters, as mentioned in previous reviews, if you are looking for a good strong and more importantly decently priced drink then The Gay 90s is definitely the place to be. If you like good conversation, an overall friendly atmosphere and a sort of "Cheers-like? feel of camaraderie, then you found it. However, that is where all the praise stops. It has been made public to most that The Gay 90s is now under new management and that the establishment would still welcome GLBT and straight crowds, familiar drinks would still be offered, dinner and entertainment would remain the best there ever was and familiar faces amongst the staff would also go unchanged. With that said, however, many changes have been made ranging from necessary to simply unnecessary. Firstly, drink prices have gone up which is deemed granted. Unnecessarily so, in contrast, new paper towel dispensers and new waste baskets have been added to every restroom in sight. Particularly, these new plush accessories were not free or really even necessary since they waste a lot more paper than save, do not work on a consistent basis and at the end of the day they come with the hefty price of increased drink prices to cover their usage. Furthermore, a new "strictly enforced" dress code has come into effect leaving many bewildered and rather baffled. Meaning, no baggy clothes whatsoever, no untucked shirts, no head scarves, du rags or anything remotely suggesting a hip hop/urban dress. Seems pretty exclusive to particular ethnic groups and individuals doesn't it? It appears that the Gay 90s no longer welcomes everyone as it had originally intended as well as suggested to most. It may look like the same building from the outside, but trust me it no longer has its same friendly familiar appeal. In other words, prepare to see favorite bartenders fired and replaced with new inexperienced ones, soaring drink prices, removal of club card privileges, mandatory cover charges for all, and much much more.
Happy Hour deja vu. As a former afternoon drunk I can attest that the 'Happy Hour' has the strongest drinks on the planet and cheap, too. An alcoholics mecca, indeed! Whether you haven't visited the 'Happy Hour" in a day or a decade walking in is like walking into an Edward Hopper painting. Same folks, sitting in the same place, drinking the same drink. playing the same game, telling the same stories. Boring, but strangely comforting.
Hott bi/les girls. So happy to see more Bi curious/lesbian women here now who are actually hott and not butch. The gay men are awesome and so so nice to the women. It's great that you can be yourself and the drinks are nice and stiff! The only downfall is that I wish they would keep it a bit cleaner that would be a huge plus! But everytime I go back the crowd gets better!
cool?. This place looks good and every time I go I feel like I should be having fun. But I don't. It tends to get filled with too many people attempting to be hip by going to a place called The Gay 90's. I'm not entirely sure what that means...but it gives me bad vibes. I mean, yeah, straight people should be totally accepting of gay people- but why does that "acceptance" always result in being really loud and annoying?
fun place to go. Well its a landmark, I MISS the EmCee Morgan Taylor( red head, bib chest) as the new one or old one stinks/boring. But if she was back or made special guest spots it would be much better, also they need to updte bathrooms. But, besides that its a fun spot with strong drinks
