LAME - LAME - LAME.
EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED AND DISGUSTED!!!
I visited Bunkers with friends on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2010, for the Paul Metsa/Cats Under the Stars show. In fact, I'd hyped the visit all week to friends whom I'd invited to go.
We arrived early (7:30p) to get a table and have dinner before the show. We sat there for at least a half hour with no wait service whatsoever – and none in sight.
One of us finally got up and went to the bar to request beverages, where we were further ignored (while the two bartenders made out and groped each other).
Long after the warm up musician left the stage, we finally got a visit from a wait person and we asked for menus. We were told that there was ONE food item from which to choose – a hamburger with chips. WHAT THE HELL? I had specifically checked their website and viewed the menu before our arrival to be sure there would be a variety of food choices (which I'd also hyped to my friends).
If we'd have known there was only one menu item available we'd have gone somewhere else for dinner, instead of being deceived. The website should be updated to reflect ONE CHOICE.
I am extremely pissed and was completely embarrassed in front of my friends.
Other complaints: $15 cover (for bad service and one menu item??!!) Burnt, nasty popcorn $4 for a club soda Extremely poor service Lame, deceitful website
Best music around!. One of the best places in Minneapolis to see and hear the best musicians. Fun atmosphere and good drink prices with a reasonable cover and free parking! Excellent Burgers! You can't go wrong seeing Dr. Mombo's Combo on Sundays and Mondays and the other groups are among the best the Twin Cities has to offer. This is one bar I have visited that has never let me down in regards to quality musicianship and good company.
Long one of the most reliable destinations for fans of funk and R&B..
In Short
Hosting local bands every night (with the occasional national act on weekends), Bunker's is best known for weekly performances by Dr. Mambo's Combo, which attract a who's who of local funkophiles to the stage. Other regulars include such horn bands and reggae artists. Bunker's has a laid back, working-class feel. The sightliness is less than ideal for music-lovers, with the stage obscured from much of the bar by a wall. But if you're on the dance floor, that won't be a problem.
Awesome!!.
Fantastic 'older' bar atmosphere with all ages.......Check it out - especially on Sunday or Monday nite. Dr. Mambo's Combo will keep you singing, laughing and dancing. They are great! Come alone or with a group. Either way - a great time will be had by all!
Ok drinks for value... Great low door charge.
FUN.
This place has never let me down? It?s always fun!
I should note that I only go on nights one particular band is playing (McKinley Place) and I think that may be why I have so much fun.
The drinks are strong & it?s a fair price for the area.
It?s more of a rock & roll scene - ripped up jeans and t-shirts.
They also have a parking lot that?s free.
Don't Go There. This place was definitely not the happening place. Boring!!!Full of boring people. People just are not friendly at all. I suppose since it is a bar full of regulars. (Extraordinary, great, fun people should not go there!!!) Bartender and rest of staff really sucked. The bar and layout of the dance floor could use some help. GB Leighton rocks but that was the only highlight of the night for us. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. I have never written a bad review before. I don't want to sound like a such a whiner but it was a waste of a good night.
Great music!!. This is the best place in town for great music, and great burgers! There's even a movie about this place! "Bunkers: An American Music Story"
Live Local Music at its best.
Bunkers- What a great place to see a live show. From Dr. Mombos Combo to GB Leighton. There is always something there for anyone. I love how it give up & comming performers a chance to play. One Night I went down & IPR students were showcasing there work. From DJ's to Jelly Bean Johnson. I love the bar! Nice strong drinks to go with the working class kind of bar.
If you want to see 3 of the best local bands in Minneapolis. Check out Bunkers on Mondays, Wednesdays, & Sundays. the Combo, GB Leighton, & Mick Stearling & company.
Great hook-up spot....
A business associate and myself were visiting Minn on a Monday night. Of course- we figured the nightlife scene would be close to nil- but our concierge told us about Bunkers. The place was hopping on a Monday night with a great live band. I didnt have the food- but the drinks were large and strong. The service was typical of a crowded bar. But the real draw was the band and the ladies. If youre looking to hook-up- this is a good place.
It's not in the best area of town- have a taxi drop you off out front and pick you up.
Under appreicated. So the service may be substandard, but it's a great fun place--one of the best for live music! (and Great bar burgers)
