The Best Buy-based Geek Squad's expertise is wide-ranging: Trained representatives can handle everything from setting up a new sysem, installing software or creating a wireless network to dealing with more dire issues like the infamous "blue screen of death." Customers have the option of bringing their computers into a store, receiving 24-hour assistance over the phone or having a repairman come to their home (arriving in the squad's signature black-and-white VW Bugs).

I broke my laptop and called these guys for a quote. The first time they told me definitely not more than $120. I called Best Buy for a comparison (not knowing that they OWN the Geek Squad, and they do their repairs) and they told me $160. I got to the Geek Squad store on 50th and France and they told me $300 minimum. So I said no way, I'll take it to Best Buy. Well when I called them again to confirm their quote, they told me $125 just to look at it. They also told me that the entire motherboard would have to be replaced. I called several smaller local firms and each of them said that it was a common problem that did NOT require replacement of the motherboard. Not only did Geek Squad try to gouge me on the price, they wanted to perform unnecessary repairs!
Pros: absolutely nothing, nothing, zip
Cons: , dishonest, waste of my time.
