…
Best steakhouse in Minnesota!. There are a number of great steakhouses in downtown Minneapolis (Manny's, Ruth's Chris, Morton's, etc). However, Capital Grill sticks out as the best in my mind. This is based on their Delmonico bone-in Ribeye & the ambiance. If you haven't gone, I recommend trying it out for a night with the guys or a romantic date.
Not quite up to the hype..... My sister and I like to go to a "$$$$" restaurant about once a month or so, and this was our first trip to Capital Grille. Yes, my expectations were high, since we had been to Ruth's Chris Steakhouse about four times in a row prior to this. The bread was great. The service and ambiance were fabulous. But.... my filet Mignon was crunchy on the outside and well-done on the inside, when I ordered it "on the rare side of medium." This brought out the gristle, and I couldn't eat very much of it. Thankfully, the potatoes were good, and the dessert was fabulous. Our waiter, Bruce, was very professional and friendly. I will probably go back again, maybe it was just an off night. I'm weak around good desserts.
Where not to sit. Fabulous food, great ambiance, but definately steer clear from table 400. It's a small table for 2 right by the kitchen and next to a large round table. The waiter could barely get to us and it felt cramped, but that is the only bad table in there. The restaurant is A+ otherwise.
Meat and potatoes get the five-star treatment at this popular La Salle Plaza steakhouse..
In Short
The scene reflects an upper-crust yacht club. Maroon, forest green and almost-black blues offset the dark woods throughout the spacious dining room, decorated with imposing bronze statues and stag heads. Families, businessmen and couples with hearty appetites fill the booths and small tables. American grub at its finest: six cuts of steak, fist-sized lamb chops and lobsters weighing up to five pounds. For dessert, there's rich, fluffy cheesecake with strawberry sauce and a sugary crust.
Quality & Consistency.
One of my favorite Twin City Restaurants.
Step into the good-old-boys dinner club, where they wait on you hand and foot.
Great Steaks & Service. Convenient downtown location. My favorite is the bone-in filet, and the pea soup (when they have it). Nice wine selection too.
Very Romantic with Exceptional Service. My husband and I went here recently for a romantic night out, and from the moment we were seated, we were treated with exceptional service. The waiter went over the menu with us and even asked what we were here to eat and went over those specific items. The waiter also was very meticulous about keeping our water and wine glasses full. When my husband had to use the bathroom, he was escorted by our waiter, and the bathrooms were quite impressive--not to mention while he was gone the waiter came back and re-folded his napkin. We ordered filet mingon, and the outside was a little charred and the middle was just about right. I was a little disappointed by that--for a $35 steak, it better be done to perfection. Overall, we were very impressed and will return again!
AWSOME, RESTAURANT. everthing was excellant, service, food, all the staff were just increable. you could not find a better restaurant in the whole state.AWSOME!!!!!!!!!
My 2 cents worth.
While I've been to numerous coasts and then some and in-between, I'm not so haughty, etc. to call attention to living in numerous places.., ahem, but when I visit Minneapolis and the surrounding area, friends and dining are always a great combination.
The Capital Grille, as part of a national chain network, by way of its corporate design gets fairly lost in its own miasmic and intransigent shuffle. As when things aren't right, which I've experienced a few times, there's pretty much nothing other than a shrugging of some rather narrow shoulders and the bill IS presented. And yes, the wine card is a rip, Robert Parker and I are on the same page....
I'm fairly easy to please and I know great from good - or less, but I've seen far better places to fill my piehole.
Special occasion.
We'll put the Cap on our list of favorites for special occasions, but also a nice after show dessert and nightcap spot.
We cannot say enough good things about the wait staff. We went on a Sunday night and were the last customers in. They were exceedingly attentive, but not intrusive. Informative and helpful (I couldn't decide whether to get the Petite Filet Mignon or the Sliced, and they steered me toward the latter, which was a fabulous choice because I love the sweet onions, wild mushrooms, and the fig reduction). They made us feel that we were very special on our special night out together.
We highly recommend this outstanding restaurant. Good things really are good, and there are very few that could be this good!
Very nice. Great, and I mean great service. Food excellent, and it better be for the prices. Most expensive steaks in the city. Nice place. Always busy, so not very quiet or romantic. Tough for big groups to talk since noise level is up there
