When we got there, the old charm brings you back right away. We were promptly greeted by our server who asked if we needed a few moments. Once we were set, we ordered; I had the filet of beef which I requested Bearnaise sauce, a baked potato and a caesar (per the previous reviews I had to try). My dad ordered the same but with the NY strip. The caesar was the best ever and the steak- one of the bests I have ever had. For dessert, we ordered coffee and the chocolate souffle which takes 11-15 minutes to make from scratch and worth the wait. Everything was wonderful and the price really not as bad once you also add in the restaurant it's self and what other restaurants change that don't have half the charm. I do have to say, our server Shane was also wonderful- the way service should be!
Sinfully delicious steak!. I was starving for a good steak and looked through the Minneapolis-St.Paul magazine in my hotel room searching for a place to eat. Just around the corner from my hotel lies an unassuming exterior. Dressed in shorts and a t-shirt, I entered Murray's and was greeted by a friendly hostess in a dress and matre'd in a business suit. Even though I was dressed very casually, I was treated as if I was properly dressed. My waitress was extremely friendly and provided excellent service. I ordered the Caesar salad, New York strip steak and a baked potato. The lettuce in my Caesar was crispy and the dressing was extremely tasty. It was one of the best Caesar's I've ever had. Next came my steak. I kid you not, it was sinfully delicious. Seasoned and grilled to absolute perfection. The baked potato was standard - nothing special but I didn't expect anything more. The only disappointing thing for me was that I couldn't take home 1/2 the steak that I couldn't finish!
Iconic. What can I say. Murray's is an Iconic restaurant that has been and still is 5-Star Excellent. Everytime we dine at Murray's we get friendly faces, 1st class service and Outstanding Food.
Favorite special celebration destination. We have been going to Murray's for family celebrations for years, and they have never disappointed. The staff has always been nothing but kind, even when our then 10 year old tipped over his ice water onto the very thick tablecloth during my parents' 40th anniversary dinner. The garlic toast is to die for, and the filet mignon is incredible. If someone can top their steaks on their home grill, I would like to live in their neighborhood, and be invited to their parties!
This old-school steakhouse has been serving Minneapolis since 1946..
In Short
Droves of businessmen, wearing button-downs and golf shirts, are drawn to the Old-World charm of the place: meat-and-potato favorites, rose-colored napkins and the legendary waitstaff. The famous "silver butter knife steak" for two--a double New York sirloin steak--is worth its hefty price. The tender pork chop with apple horseradish sauce is a winner. For dessert, order the enchanting espresso creme brulee.
Lobster Bisque. This restaurant had the most amazing lobster bisque ever! You HAVE to try it! It is know for it's wonderful steak and the steak is wonderful but WOW. The bisque just melts in your mouth! I loved the piano and violin players. The place was beautiful with all those mirrors and chandeliers. The only thing I would change is make it bigger so that you can have more private dining. It's a little crowded. But my husband and I will definately go back. The service was wonderful. Our waiter even gave us a little history lesson on the restaurant.
1976. I still recall the exquisite silver butterknife steak grilled rare to perfection and the most hospitable and prompt staff. Also the elegant setting and decor. I have eaten steaks all over the country, Florida to California, Washington State to Arizona in every conceivable place and price range and Murray's is in the top two. Now the top one as the original Chris n' Pitts in North Hollywood, CA is no longer in business as of two years ago. Murray's is the best.
Lifetime Favorite!. I've been eating at Murry's since my Dad brought me there in the early 50's. I've always been treated like a "special guest", even when they don't know who my Dad was. I no longer live in Mpls., but when I come for a visit, I always make a special trip to Murry's. It's like "comming home". Food, service, ambiance, memories--- all are special!
A Hamburger Experience. If you haven't had a burger for lunch at Murray's, you don't know what you are missing. The 1/2 pound ground sirloin -almost wonder if they grind it on site - is pattied very thick (almost like a meatball) and seared with a slightly salty crust preserving every ounce of juice. Served on an onion bun, there is no need for adding cheese or any condiments, it's pure joy. You cannot miss this one!
overpriced. The silver butterknife steak was good, but not breathtaking, and definitely not worth the money. I've made better steaks on the grill. I am always willing to pay good money for good food, but I really didn't think it was worth it. The salad might as well of come from mcdonalds, there was nothing special about the potatoes, and the martinis weren't special either. Overall I was pretty disappointed with our meal and I don't plan on going back.
