A festive atmosphere, potent margaritas and wallet-friendly prices lure crowds to this popular Mexican chain..
In Short
With friendly servers and goofy gimmicks, Chevys is a big draw for families and groups looking for a fun, affordable night out. A full bar and a dozen different margaritas attract a happy hour crowd, and a tortilla machine is often surrounded by children watching the dough-to-tortilla transformation. Fajitas, a house specialty, are available with nearly a dozen different fillings, from mesquite-grilled chicken to portobello mushrooms and asparagus. Desserts include flan and sopaipillas.

Decent Tex-Mex Chain.
I like this place a bit better than Don Pablo's for chain Tex-Mex. The difference is the fresh tortillas. The person that wrote about thick doughy tortillas either got a bad batch or has never had fresh tortillas (it's not like lefse, dontchyaknow). And the person that mentioned that this is not authentic Mexican - of course it isn't and I don't think you'll see word "Mexican Food" anywhere in the restaurant. They do have great fajitas and pretty good salsa. Huge portions. Good margaritas as well. Nothing very spicy hot. Good Downtown location, but loud and busy on the weekends (loud is OK if you have kids along). Average service.

Run of the Mill.
If you are looking for authentic, tasty food, you came to the wrong place. The food is definately adequate, just sort of tastelest. Although, I have had one extremely delicious, fabulous meal that keeps me going back: the Southwest Flautas! Highly recommended, along with the very large Margiritas, of which the choice of flavors is great! The service is typical, nothing special, expect long waits at peak hours. The best part of this restaurant is the great location downtown, right across from block e. The atmosphere is nice, great interior, good music. It is defintely loud and bar-like, which can be good or bad. Overall, I'd recommend it as a bar, not a place to eat.

Better drinks than food.
Chevy's has always seemed to me like the Applebees of mexican restaurants. The food here is decent, but certainly not the level you'd expect from a local mexican restaurant. My main attraction to Chevy's is their gigantic margaritas which go down great before a show downtown.

Funky Flavors.
Their margaritas are great and the food is way better than Don's. During the summer they had watermelon margaritas which were the best. The only things that bothers me about this place is the tortilla machine used for the fajitas. The tortillas come out too thick and doughy, stick with the other entrees like chimi's and your meal will be great.
Chevy's can be a romantic place for a date if you get a booth in the back. The table seating areas can get alittle loud and kill the mood.

Disappointing.
I've been here a few times, mainly for the margaritas, and end up ordering food and wondering why. The food has no flavor whatsoever and will suffice only to fill your empty stomach. Go here for the margaritas, go to O'Donovans down the street for something good to eat.
