I went here with a couple of friends before a Twins game mainly due to the location. We had a really good time, great selection of beers, good snacks and the staff was incredibly attentive. Actually we had such a good time that we stopped on the way back to our cars after the game and had the same positive experience. The location got us here, the food, staff and drinks brought us back.
Terrible customer service from owner!! – We contacted O'Donovan's a month in advance to cater a large work event and were told to talk to the owner, Dermot Cowley. Dermot was great....at first. He provided suggestions to appeal to a large crowd and even offered to provide the lunch at a discount since we were on a budget! Fabulous, right? He soon turned unresponsive when trying to finalize the food and finance just before the event. He would not answer his cell phone, return our phone messages, and did not send follow-up emails when he said he would. The whole ordeal was extremely unprofessional. Dermot should have been straightforward that he was not interested or unable to do it! The committee ended up having to scramble to find other arrangements a week before the event. Horrible customer service and from the owner no less!
Right across from Target Center and First Avenue nightclub is a friendly bit of Gaelic charm. – In Short
When owner (and native Irishman) Dermot Cowley took over this pub and restaurant, its warm atmosphere and live music quickly made it one of downtown's friendliest destinations. The menu is pretty Irish, too: boxty (an Irish potato pancake), fish-and-chips and beef stew made with Murphy's Irish Stout. The outdoor tables fill up fast on summer evenings, when young and gregarious clientele watch people walking from the Target Center parking ramps to various downtown events.
Best bartenders, fantastic food – My old man and I have been frequenting OD's for quite some time and we have never met a friendlier bunch of people. Best atmosphere, proper pints, and wonderful food. Most suprising, they put up with the likes of us!
Feels like a cleaner Dublin – I recently moved to MSP and this has been my favorite bar so far. It's got a great Irish feel but doesn't feel as dirty as if it were in Dublin. Good place to go for great bar food and a propa pint.
Excellent beer selection, good karaoke – I've had a hard time finding better Sunday night karaoke than O'Donnovan's. And nothing goes with karaoke like a few drinks! Fortunately, O'Donnovan's carries a fantastic selection of Irish beers, whiskeys, and liquours for the distinguished drinker. Prices are a tad expensive, but that is to be expected with imported beverages. The pub layout provides ample opportunities to mingle, meet new people, and get away from the loud music occassionally. O'Donnovan's attracts a mixed crowd and is high in traffic, but comfortable seating is always available in this fun atmosphere.
Good place for a pint laddie boy – Good Irish bar. Gotta love the Irish. Better than Keirans
Karaoke is not good, boring host – The setting is cool, the singer gets to go on stage. That is about it. You can't hear yourself clearly while on stage. The host was cute, but boring, and you can't understand her when she calls a name, muffled. The karaoke list isn't bad although, the books are hard to go through as new songs and sections are added to the front of the books, making it difficult to really find a song.
Service is super slow when Karaoke is going on.
As good as Eire – They have the best karaoke and a great selection of songs for a Sunday night. Too bad it starts at 10pm for those who have to work Monday morning. It is a great place to go any night of the week. The staff is wonderful and friendly. Great place to meet people and have get togethers. Only thing they are missing is Miller Lite but that is do to the crappy beer distributor who handles downtown Mpls. You know who you are! All around great pub!
want to meet new people? – I found O'Donovan's a wonderful place to meet new people. The atmosphere brings in lots of nice people. I came for happy hour and stayed all night, I had such a great time!
