Great food + great service = try it! – I was in town on business and the staff at The King & I made me feel welcome and really went out of their way to ensure a fabulous dining experience.
I ordered a vegetable and tofu stir fry and specified "spicy" - not only was it fiery delicious, the server brought over extra chilis and hot sauces for me to sample.
I received a huge portion and only regretted that I didn't have a refrigerator in my hotel room so I could keep the leftovers.
Fabulous restaurant, caring staff, great wine list, I highly recommend this place!
Terrible Thai food, would not recommend – I was excited to eat at The King and I restraint having read and heard great things about it. The atmosphere was pleasant and it was nicely decorated. However, what destroyed the experience for me and my family was the food. I am certainly no expert on Thai food, but having just eaten at True Thai (2627 E Franklin Ave, Minneapolis) the previous week I was expecting dishes with equal flavor and richness. The food was awful. We ordered Pad Thai with Chicken and The King and I fried rice with BBQ pork. In both dishes the meat was over done, rubbery, and certainly not BBQed. The rice tasted as if it had come from a box and too was overdone. I would understand if this was Perkin?s attempt at Thai food, but I had paid nearly $15-20 per dish for this food! I would certainly not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Delicious, hair-on-fire thai! – The main dining area has a peaceful, romantic ambience, the food is terrific, spicy and fresh. Our waiter was perfect: informative about the various dishes, courteous, prompt but did not hover. The table servers were right on as well, bringing anything we needed and never alling the water to run out. It was a great meal and we plan on making this a regular stop.
BEST VODKA!! – I love this place soooo much. Good music, good drinks, good eats. I could go and drink the infused Ketel One every night. Good for chatting with a friend.
late night fun – We ended up here after a night of drinking in uptown. We were a large group, took a corner booth area, and just ate the bar food and ordered many more drinks. The DJ was awesome (oldies, I believe), and the bartenders and servers were super nice and great. Fabulous end to a great night.
Good. – This is one of the best Thai restaurant in Minneapolis. The food is good we always order way too much because everything is so yummy. The service is good and polite. and The restaurant is really beautiful. Its alittle pricey but its worth it.
Worst Service Ever – We just got back from a birthday dinner and I must say it was some of the worst service I have ever had. I have spent over ten years serving in some of the finest restaurants and bars in the US and in Europe. It took over one hour just to get entrees ordered the food all came at different times and half the orders were wrong. They have two sizes of martinis and I thought I had recieved the 6 ounce glass (because it was small) and they had automatically charged me for a large one (9 ounces). Doesn't seem like a big deal however it left me with $14 drinks. I complained to management that I know what nine ounces worth of vodka looks like (and feels like) and nothing was changed. We spent the night ignored and arguing with management. Had we not been celebrating with friends, I would have made management measure those drinks with shot glasses to prove a point. The pad thai tasted like the same noodles I make from a box with stirfry. I have had much better service from Jimmy John's delivery people than at this restaurant. We will never go back.
Not the most authentic Thai. – All things consider, it"s not a bad place. Nor is the King and I a good place, either. The food was more geared toward the locals than anything else, and I thought for the price, I might get a little more. Drink specials are good, but you pay for the so-so food.
Rude Management and Waitstaff! – I went to the King & I looking forward to their great food and relaxing atmosphere. I was disappointed with my last experience when my food took an hour to come, and where the order was screwed up. When I told my waitress just to bring me out sauce to fix my order, she charged me for it! After we complained to the manager, he got defensive and was unapologetic about the service! I am never going back to this establishment again!
Trendy Eat Street restaurant serves some of the most authentic Thai cuisine in the area. – In Short
The dining room is a large, open space painted in pastel hues, adorned with stunningly beautiful carved statues of elephants, Buddhist figures and museum-quality Thai crafts. It's perfect for large groups, and is just steps away from the convention center. The lengthy menu includes traditional dishes, all made in generous portions that can be customized with meats, seafood, tofu or mock duck. The fried whole soft-shell crab is a favorite, but might not be available.
