I have been a customer of Ichiban for 10 years, visiting a few times a year. My husband and I have typically each always ordered the same meal- the most expensive thing on the menu, the Superior- and have always ordered the fried rice instead of the white rice (now an additional $4 per person) and had a few cocktails each. Our bill was usually around $100- and we thought it was worth it.
We went last weekend, ordered our usual, had less drinks (2 beers each) and our bill was $150 including a $23 gratuity that was automatically charged.
The show was terrible- the "chef" kept dropping things, the waitress was rude, and the food was a 1/2 on the quality and taste scale. The lobster was the size of a crawfish. The filet mignon was completely steamed-like and unseasoned. I got scallops with my meal and I seriously got ONE SCALLOP!!!
And I just have to add, that the Krab with a "K" in the salad is tacky and disgusting. Really? You cant use real crab?
I will not be back and I will tell my friends not to go anymore either.
My initial impression when I walked in was good, but it then it went down hill after that. There were 10 in my party and there was a table that was just the right size...so that was good. After this point it went down hill. The waitress never smile once. She was of little help and lack all interest in who she was serving. The 18% tip was built into the tab, so she had no motivation what so ever to please her customer. No personality either, just blaaaaa. Disappointing.
The cook was fine and did a good job, so I give credit there. The price of the food and the portions where very small, and the scallops lacked flavor. Basically I thought is was overpriced.
There are much better values and food with a smile out there. I won't go back.
bad news sushi. My name is gina and i was a customer at the sushi bar last night. It was my first time coming because my friend recomended me here because the sushi was great. When I got there the host was really nice explaining to me about the sushi bar and the service from the servers was exceptional. i was told by the host that I had an hour limit which i thought was plenty of time to eat. When I sat down there was barely any sushi on the moving boats and when there was it was all the same thing and there was no selection at all. This was going on for about half of the time i was there. I was told by the server that I could ask the sushi chef to make me something i preffered. So i asked the older gentlemen to make me something with salmon and he was very rude to me telling me to wait until he has time with a strong tone. I understand it was a little busy but if your so busy making sushi for the boats then how come there was nothing there and when there was it was all the same sushi?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! That was my first time there and most likely my last. Well at least the sushi bar.
Bad Chef. I have been to ichiban multiple times and had great experiences, but tonight was the worst experience I have ever had. I think the chef's name was yamo he was the older guy with the glasses. His show was very slow the food tasted ok but not what i expected . the vegetarian noodles i ordered were over cooked and almost black. my husbands lobster was almost like a rubber band it was so chewy and his steak was medium even tho he asked for it medium rare. he also dropped his utensils many times and spilled rice all over the table. i really do love the atmosphere and the wait staff but i would never ever suggest this chef to cook for any of my friends or anyone at that.
worst chef i ever had!!.
i been in so many teppanyaki restaurant. tonight me and my girlfriend eat in thier teppanyaki table. i think we got the worst chef they got. the chef name is yamamoto. the food is not good, is sucks, then he drop alot. specially his spatchula,etc.
im not gonna recommend this place to others. in our experience tonight. there is no way that we coming back.

Sushi bar was GREAT!. My wife and I were in the sushi bar for the All-You-Can-Eat Special, again, last night and the chefs made up a whole plate of made to order sushi and rolls. They seem to be experimenting with some new sauces that were delicious and we were happy to be able to experiment. Teng and Tony were both very friendly and seemed extremely knowledgable about sushi. The head chef Lam Ha came out from the kitchen and he explained to us that the secret to really good sushi is the rice. He said that all Minnesota sushi has to be frozen by order of the health department so the fish shouldn't very much. We love watching the little boats go round and the sushi has always been fantastic. Lots of variety.
WORST SUSHI BUFFET EVER!!. My bf and I use to go to Ichiban to eat their sushi buffet all the time. Before the food was great. Now the sushi sucks and it's not even fresh. You can tell cause when you eat it, it's warm. All their good chefs left and they just have anyone making sushi. My boyfriend ask the guy to make a Dragon Roll for him and he ask my boyfriend what goes in a Dragon roll. I was thinking to myself that you're the chef and you don't know how to make a dragon roll and your asking the customer how to make it. WHAT KIND OF CRAP IS THAT!! My bf said he went a while ago with his friend and he ate one of the sushi that wasn't clean complete and still had dirt in it. He was telling me he felt like he was going to die. I told him, if I was there I would have refuse to pay for that meal. We went back later and the chef was like you're the one that had the bad sushi last time right? He was like yeah and the chef didn't even apologize or anything. TERRIBLE PLACE...IF YOU WANT TO EAT SOMETHING CRAPPY GO AHEAD, BUT IF YOU WANT SOME GOOD QUALITY I RECOMMEND NOT GOING TO THIS PLACE.
Fun Atmosphere. I have been to itchiban on several occasions. I really love the lighting and the chefs are great and friendly 4 out of every 5 times I go. The service for beverages or anything from the kitchen directly leaves much to be desired. There has been an occasion when I walked up to the manager to ask for my beverage since I had not had one refill and the meal was over and our waitress had not returned once. Don't expect great drinks or fast refills but when you go and are friendly to the chefs they make it a great experience where we have even brought the little ones and the chef did wonderful tricks for us and always makes us smile. They even stopped and told my daughter to sit back before the lit the big fire and made sure she got to see all the fun that is cooking at the table.
Terrible. After hearing the locals rave about this restaurant I was excited. The moment we got to our table it was awful. The chef was clusmy and dropped utensils on the floor. At one point he just left the food cooking without any explanation. He tried to do a trick with an egg and my son's fried rice had eggshell in it. I mentioned it to the cook he just shrugged. He was placing meat on another ladies plate and missed stated;"The five second rule counts" and placed the meat on her plate. The ladies face was flushed red with embarassement. The cooked attempted to turn the rice bowls on a spatula and dropped not one bowl but two bowls in attempt to dazzle us. Awful. The food was mediocre at best the portions were small the salad and soup terrible. The bill 158.00 for two adults and 2 y/o. Don't waste your time going to this place. It's a beautiful building but the service is terrible. I had two glasses of wine to stomach the food. Which reminds me I had a 12 dollar itchiban drink couldn't even drink it was terrible.
such a disappointment!. After reading all these reviews raving about Ichibans, especially 2 in particular that said they liked it more than Benihana, I had to give it a try. Benihana is my all-time favorite restaurant since as long as I can remember, so I really had some high hopes for Ichibans. When I called in to make my reservation, I asked for a more experienced chef and we ended up getting the head chef! I really liked the set-up of the place and everyone was nice. So far, so good. But, It all went downhill from there. The food SUCKED plain and simple. Everything was swimming in this AWFUL sauce!!! The food itself was cooked so good, but then it was all ruined when the chef poured some gross red sauce all over it. Everytime he put it on something else, I cringed!! It was awful. The meat was so tender and perfect when he cooked it, and then, BAM the sauce and it's ruined. We spent $98 for just two people and NO drinks. I wouldn't have paid $5 for that food. Benihana ONLY from now on. Nothing beats that place. I grew up in LA, so if you are ever there, go to the one in Encino! Nothing can beat it!!
