In Short – First Avenue, a slightly grubby, two-story room with a black-on-black color scheme is one of the most popular clubs in town. The crowd is an eye-catching mix of fashion freaks, frumps and everyone in between. The club hosts DJ dance nights Thursdays and Saturdays in the Main Room and VIP Room, when not preempted by a concert. The diverse calendar includes up-and-comers who play 7th Street Entry next door.

I happen to like 1st Ave, I've been there for a couple shows and it can get packed! I really like that they have an upper balcony like level to get a different view. Yes, it is somewhat dirty, but it's always a good time if you go to the right performances/events. It's a good time.
- Pros: Performers and Events, big stage, upper level
- Cons: dirtyness
You think First Ave. is Bad? Try the C.C. Club on Lyndale....

They're clear your drinks twice as fast, give you scowls even quicker, and then shoot up heroin right in front of your eyes. Except the bigger bartender with glasses and the woman with long dread-locked blond hair. They're nice. The two old men are cynical, yet too stupid to earn that title. They are over-priced, too. Something about adults who act like children around Uptown Minneapolis --- fully willing to be green, but not at all willing to be friendly. These people in Minneapolis have had religion thrust upon them as children, and they have no definition for "individuality" beyond their superficial outer-skin layers. There's no INTERNALISM in Uptown, Minneapolis. It's all on the outside. Great arts and crafts houses, though, and wonderful stained glass everywhere! There isn't a single modestly priced jazz club anywhere in this hellhole either!
Do you like to stick to the floor?

This place has a name that is about it. They have had a good history, but that is all it is now is history. The place is a pig sty. My feet stuck to the floor in several places around the club because of the dirty floors. The bathrooms were beyond disgusting with urine puddles everywhere and nothing to wipe hands with after washing them. Of course why even bother washing your hands anyway because the sinks were disgusting too. The staff was rude. They had the attitude that they were better then everyone and that you should bow down to kiss their A**. The drinks were WAY WAY over priced, come on 9 bucks for a drink? Of course that was subject to change depending on who served the drink, that fluctuated. Amazing how a drink could be 7 bucks on one side of the bar and just walking over to the other side it goes up 2 bucks for the same drink.
If a person is going to go to this place while visiting Minnesota, bring a camera and just take pictures of the stars on the outside... that is about the only good thing.
I still can't stress enough about the arrogant staff at this place, if your body isn't mutilated with tats or holes all over your body you aren't a person. Also you can't even smoke while having a beer. That brings me to another trick... While we were outside smoking they cleared our drinks (still half full) so we bought new ones of course and waitress simply said, "sorry, thought you left... what can I get ya?" Kinda funny since our jackets were still on the backs of the chairs. I can understand this happening maybe once but this happened to us 2 times that night. Same waitress. Of course she said the same thing again. Then 15 minutes later came with our drinks and basically slammed the drinks on the table, grabbed the 20 bucks out of my hand and walked away. I think I was supposed to get some change back from that. We left after that.
Overall, this is the worst club I have ever gone to. I do NOT recommend you go here. Ever!
- Pros: Good History
- Cons: Parking, Service, DIRTY, No Value, Drinks overpriced, RUDE Employees
