Abusive Bouncers; Dance platform is a death trap! – My first time going was probably the most traumatic experience I have ever had, period. This was my first time at the Saloon so I didn't know what to expect. She wore these new heels that night and barely tripped (because of the crack going down the middle of the dance platform which is a deathtrap). She didn't even make it to the ground because this bouncer with a goatee literally PUSHED her by her BREASTS and yelled at us to leave. He didn't even ask politely at first. Apparently they thought she was drunk! She even stood on one foot, closed her eyes, and touched her nose several times to prove that she wasn't drunk and they physically grabbed me and shoved us out into the cold (it's 13 degrees with two ft of snow btw and they didn't give us our jackets back until we had to ask for them). She cried hysterically because of how very violated she felt. There were several witnesses who even stated they saw the whole thing and couldn't believe how violent that bouncer was and for no reason. Then a bunch of other bouncers came and bullied us out like we were trash. A polite 'Excuse me, could you please leave?' would have sufficed. We went out to calm down a bit and then went back in to speak with "management" and I use that term very loosely because of how terrible it was. We were introduced to this man and when we explained the situation, he said 'So? The bouncer's GAY'. As if that made it OK to touch her breasts! My girl friend then said 'What if a lesbian shoved you out by your penis?' and he literally flipped out! Hypocritical much? I guess it doesn't work both ways? I asked for his name and information and he yelled 'My name's Keith! Go look up the rest online!' and we left. Funny thing was, there were several men drunkenly groping each other on the ground and almost ripped my dress off in the process. Were they escorted out? Of course not. They're men. Another man also tried to grab my girl friend's ass and I caught his hand right before he did it and twisted it behind his back and threatened to break every bone in his body if he ever touched another woman like that again. I stopped right before I popped his shoulders out and now I'm wishing I did...Also, when we first arrived, we were told we were the hottest girls there, and for some really crazy reason, I get this feeling that was the reason why we were kicked out; because a lot of straight, bi, and gay men tried to dance with us and it may have taken away the attention from the other gay men who were either jealous or looking for action. And no, I'm not being pretentious when I say we were probably the most attractive people that 'club' has seen in ages.
PROS: The fries were good and the cook was nice despite having waited 15 minutes to get them when there was no one in line...and had to ask for our food after waiting. Not sure if that's a PRO now that I think about it.
CONS: The bouncers and management are terrible. The bathroom doesn't look like it's ever seen a wet rag. It seriously looked like someone took a dump, missed the toilet, and painted the walls this putrid brownish green. On the stage, there's also a huge rift, which almost tripped my girl friend over in the first place. I consider that to be a huge hazard considering the stage is approximately three feet off the ground.
All in all, the place should be condemned and the management should be sued for such terrible behavior.
And Keith? It looks like there's a trend in bouncer abuse looking at these other reviews. If you don't want to get sued for harassment (and discrimination), you'd better get your crap straightened out.
Dump – Bathrooms look and smell like a sewer. Building is nearly condemned. A fighting bar where even the owner will jump customers in the alley
For the 30 and under crowd.. this is your best bet – I don't know what bar the last reviewer was in, but mr mycommentsaretrue is way off the mark. This club is known to be safe and I've never seen in fourteen years going there religiously the bouncers manhandle anyone unless they were some crazy/drunk that started a scene and needed to be put out for the safety of the rest of us. I really like the bar because it stays away from the drag queens and leather boys and tries to focus on just being a low scale hangout nightclub where you don't have to dress up or pay high prices for drinks. The bar is generally busy most nights of the week cept weds. Because it does follow the trends, the place is a magnet for the under 30 crowd, but there is still plenty for the 30 to 40 year olds to enjoy. Prob not the best place to be if you are older but there are plenty of other bars out there that cater to that group. The staff is truely friendly and once you get to know just one of them, they'll cater to your needs without you even asking. This is the only gay bar that actually does live guest DJ shows with top names, and I just love dancing. This club is just the right size for this city.. I do like larger clubs, but Mpls boys just do go out like they do in other cities. If your from out of town looking for the 'In crowd'.. this is your best bet. Only draw back is the increase in straight women showing up and thinking everyone there should cater to them and forgeting that they are actually guests in a gay mens club. If I wanted to see girls, I'd go down to the 90's.
Editorial Review by Citysearch Editors – Minneapolis gay bar known for pretty boys, weekend dance parties and some of the most attractive bartenders in town.
The worst gay bar in the twin cities that has bouncers that attack its customers – I will first mention an old friend that had major problems getting into the place, he has bad knee problems
and does not walk easlily, he would be accused of being "too drunk" at the door or they would say he "wouldnt fit in anyway" and was refused entrance
In my own experience, me and my boyfriend used to go there every weekend yet it got pathetic, a lot of times
they would wait till you had ordered your first drink and come along and kick you out saying you were too drunk, all in 15 minutes time after entering.
Most of the other times they would wait till my BF would goto the bathroom wihtout me and come along and make me leave the bar without him knowing where I had gone too.
The last time they did this I got somewhat upset and said to the bouncer what he deserved to hear outside of the place on the sidewalk, he jumped me and then about 3 other bouncers joined in, they were kicking me in the side, one of them had his knees on my face and I lost my 1 contact lens even.
All of this after having had one drink at the place that I wasnt allowed to finish.
They also had pullled my arm back all the way to my head from behind - while there are 3 people on top of me putting all thier weight on me.. Im just a little guy too, was around 135lbs then.
I avoid this damned place!
Im curious how many other people might report the same treatment there and will surely keep an eye on this site.
fun place to go – food good, love the new patio and selection on menu. Great parking and location. Service was great also. I would go back again and again. It a fun spot to go with friends to drink and play
RUDE BARTENDERS! – They have rude and deaf bartendars! He doesn't even know what a michlob golden light was. When I asked for that he gave me a vodka on the rocks. How are those two related at all? I told him it was the wrong order and he told me I needed to pay for it and that he wasn't going to serve me anymore. I walked right out and didn't spend another dime there! RUDE, small, and dirty!
the bar to be at – awesome bar... lots of good people... great hangout any day of the week!!!
Still The Best.... – Even with the recent openings of a few more GLBT bars, this one is still the best. The drinks are strong and cheap. The music is very good. You'll find some of the best looking guys in the cities here.
Wow is really all I can say. Being from a small town, I really enjoyed being at the Saloon. It was really fun. Alot to see and you don't feel you are the strange person in the place. Everyone there is there to have a good time and they don't care what anybody thinks.
