The capitol of Catholicism in Minneapolis is a splendid, neo-Baroque stone temple that took 18 years to build, beginning in 1907. Choral and orchestral concerts are the most common performances, although there are some regular special events of note: The annual Martin Luther King Day celebration in January brings in prominent performers both musical and theatrical, and there's an annual rock festival on the grounds every July that helps raise money for the basilica's restoration.

What a fun and unique way to raise funding for the Basilica, the Basilica Block Party! I have attended the past two years, and never fail to have a great time. Watching the bands play into the evening, as the sun sets against the downtown Minneapolis skyline is so fun, and it is for such a great cause.
