Originally a home, in the late 1800s, of John Washburn, of the Washburn-Crosby Co., a predecessor of General Mills.
Known as the "Mother Club," "2218," the "Original Group," it served as both the central office and inspiration for many groups and other clubs in the upper midwest.
Now the oldest, continuously operating—in the same location—Alano in the country. Opened on May 17, 1942 with Beginner's Instruction Classes and now hosting meetings 7 days a week.
