In Short
Edgy music lovers who don't mind the dingy carpet, aging CD racks and loud music posters plastered on the walls frequent this old, little space. The knowledgeable owner, who plays punk music at a high volume, looks like he's seen it all. This is where to browse for those little black discs, whether it's by the freshest band or some Prince leftover. There's also old LPs and new and used CDs in genres like "Beat/Garage/Psych."

I tour the US a bit and I shop many record stores across the country. Treehouse is among the best there is. They really have it all: New and used vinyl - cd - dvd - 45s. Secondly, the selection is fairly priced. Thirdly, they know the music; past, present and in some cases future. Treehouse is a great resource for this town and something I am proud to have here.

I am not the typical record shop customer. Generally I walk in, browse a little, pick stuff up as if I'm going to buy it, but end up putting it back on the shelf. Okay, so that might actually be typical. I am not really the typical Treehouse customer. I usually go in to get tickets to local shows, talk baseball with Dan and pretend to know more about music than what's in my collection. I will say that I have gotten albums at Treehouse that I know I couldn't have gotten anywhere else, including The Black Crowes' latest on picture disc...something I'm guessing people weren't beating down the door for. From the time I've spent in the shop I can tell you that Mark and Dan (along with everyone else on the Treehouse staff) really know music. And if they don't have what you need, I know they'll do their best to get it for you.

Honestly, this store is the best in Minneapolis. They stock stuff that no other record store in the area has. Their 50 cent bargin bin is superb for finding lots of old records and they have an amazing selection of new records, especially if you're into experimental music (this place stocks lots of great experimental vinyl and CDs, many of them extremely rare). They also have a great selection of new 45s. They may not have a lot in quantity, but for what they lack in that they make up for in quality. Also, the staff is really nice and they've held a great place in the Minneapolis music scene for many years. So, if you're into buying vinyl, CDs, or would rather get the true experience of buying music (instead of sitting on your computer and downloading MP3 files) Treehouse is definitely the place. Support this place before the cold and virtual world destroys all of the cultual and physical artifacts surrounding music that make this city so great.
