Tips for Ted Cook's 19th Hole Barbeque

December 02, 2009

Citysearch Editorial Review. This longtime BBQ joint in South Minneapolis recently got a fancy external makeover. But inside, it’s still famously bare bones, relying instead on the juicy meats to tell its story of hot, homemade, long-smoked hickory-infused BBQ goodness. There are no tables (Ted’s is take-out only), just awards plastering the smoke-stained paneled walls. Folks wait on well-worn hand-me-down chairs, perusing the paper and newspaper clippings that decorate the walls. In the spring and summer months, the Tabasco-drenched smoke blankets the street, beckoning riders of the Hiawatha Line and Twins devotees headed to the Cardinal Bar with its wispy fingers. And the pork, chicken, ribs and beef platters that come with Ted's melt-in-your-mouth skin-on potatoes are known for leaving plenty of bare bones, too.

A Blast from the Past. Okay i went to Teds as a child in the 70's and it was in my memory for the toast, potatoes, and ribs. In Cali you don't find as many BEEF rib joints. While visiting this last time we went down to see if we could find that ole flavor of excellent bbq. Boy were we pleased. I was excited to see they have grown and won numerous awards. There was also more of a selection now of food to eat. I have to go back and eat again. I loved it. Great sauce with three options of mild, med or hot. Beef ribs charred and tender. Get the potatoes slathered in sauce. Loved it.

What is everyone raving about?. I live close to this place and people are always coming and going from here. After almost 2 years I gave it a shot. I got a pulled beef sandwich and the sauce was red and didnt cover all the beef so it was dry for most bites. The potatoes or chips are sliced like potato chips an d friend, but they werent fried enough and they stuck together like raw french fries. I feel like if they would have given me the chips all cooked it would have been a better meal as i like home made chips. I didn't try the coleslaw because I dont like coleslaw. The menu items were posted on the walls - the pictures were taken of the items in their to-go containers, kinda lame. The area where you order and wait was so outdated, that place needs a remodel. I dont know why people go here.

best BBQ in minnesota. It's hard to find great BBQ in Minnesota, if you've been to the south you know what I mean. Ted Cook's definitely rates in the very top of Minnesota BBQs. Their sauce is great and I love their potatoes. If you like hot BBQ then you must try the hot sauce. I've eaten here hundreds of times and only once were the pork ribs not good. The price is fairly in line with other minnesota BBQ joints, but none compare in taste.

Best BBQ EVER!!!. I have been eating take-out from this place my entire life (usually the Mild Beef) and I love it!!! The best thing about this place is that the food never changes. The taste is always the exact same, and the menu is the same. Every other BBQ place that I have tried has paled in comparison to this wonderful place. The sauce is the best sauce ever thanks to their special recipe (that they REFUSE to share with me). Apparently only like 2 people know the recipe and the sauce is made off-site for added secrecy. But it's worth the mystery surrounding it. Cost-wise, a meal at this place will often end up being cheaper than a meal at Famous Dave's, and the portions are larger as well. The staff are very hospitable and extremely friendly, even when the place is packed (and it does get crowded!!!! But it's worth it.). The inside of the place is also very clean and the pictures on the wall will make you drool!!!

This soul food takeout joint has been serving up super saucy ribs and chicken since 1968.. In Short
In the spring and summer months, the tobasco-drenched smoke wafting from Ted Cook's 19th Hole Barbeque blankets that corner of South Minneapolis, beckoning riders of the Hiawatha Line and Twins devotees headed to the Cardinal Bar with its wispy ingers. If your unlucky nose hasn't whiffed it yet, the signature mix of Ted's hot and spicy homemade sauces and his hickory, maple and oak hardwoods is literally heaven-scented. Inside, it's totally bare bones: There are no tables, it's strictly takeout at this joint. And the pork, chicken, ribs and beef platters that come with Ted's melt-in-your-mouth skin-on potatoes are known for leaving plenty of bare bones, too.

Good Food.. The sauce is great and very original. The beef was a very good cut and hardly any fat. Nice friendly service. Take-out only.

Awesome BBQ. As you can see from all of the other reviews, Ted Cooks has the BEST BBQ in the Twin Cities. The hot sauce is my favorite, and it is actually quite hot! The sides are good, the service is good, considering there's usually just one cashier handling everyone. Go get some tonight, you will not be disappointed!
