This old-fashioned neighborhood café sings South Minneapolis in every way: It's a meeting spot where neighbors grab a coffee, sit back and chat about local issues and politics. And like those topics, everything made here is as delicately considered and studied. There's the fresh breads and pastries; dinner specials like the grilled abalone and mushroom polenta or the pork feijoda; and the delicious Sunday brunch that includes tofu scramble. For years, the Birchwood was all about vegetarian delights. But now it's simply about good food.

Had a vegetarian friend visiting and was looking for a place that would satisfy all. The Birchwood came through. They offer breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner menus that will please any picky eater. I especially enjoyed the Sweet Potato Millet Cakes. It is definitely a treat to visit the Birchwood.

Our family loves eating at the Birchwood. I love the salads! I often choose the three salad sampler. This restaurant serves healthy and delicious food. Lots of vegetarian food options. Great coffee and delicious desserts.

Going to the Birchwood is like a special treat that you can have every day. The prices are wonderful! The offer only organic and high quality foods so you never feel bad eating there. Saturday nights they have a great deal for $25 too. You get two pizzas and a bottle of wine! Also...you must try the desserts! They are to die for!

When to Go:
On Saturdays, $25 gets you two pizzas and a bottle of wine. Bottles of wine are half-off on Mondays and Tuesdays after 5pm. And Sunday brunches are the best in town.
