My new coffeehouse sanctuary. I moved to Minneapolis in February... in the middle of my graduate school program. As an undergraduate, I had the most amazing hole-in-the-wall coffee house that was my sanctuary for escaping to a cozy atmosphere in which I could happily accomplish my homework. I've been needing a new place to go since my move to Minneapolis, but given the size of the city, I'd been dreading it. At any rate, today I went out and walked into nearly a dozen different coffee houses in the uptown area. I nearly settled on a different one until I stumbled upon this place. As soon as I walked in, I knew it was my new sanctuary. It's got cozy interior, complete with old couches and artwork on the wall. The place has character. Has a nice outdoor area as well. Staff have been great-super friendly. Their selections and prices are good, the coffee and tea I've had warranted no complaints, and the food I ate was delicious! They are playing a radio station... which isn't super appealing to me as a music choice, but given the rest of the place it's a small price to pay for a place to hang out literally all day while you are writing a paper.

A Cozy Best-Friend's Living Room (+ Good Coffee!). The best way to think about this place is a combination coffee shop, old-world bar and friendly living room - it is filled with neat nooks to curl up and read, tables with chairs to sit and drink or work and social spaces created by couches set around coffee tables.

Exposed brick and faded wood floor boards add to the ambiance and an ornate metal back door leads to a porch and additional garden seating below - it all reminds me a lot of the secret little neighborhood places you find on the back streets of Brooklyn.

As to the negative reviews, well, they made me giggle just a bit. This is not Starbucks; you do not walk in and order a drink as you would from an automaton working there because they have to. Keep in mind that these are people who, for the most part, have worked here for a long time and largely because they *want* to - again: think of it as your best friend's living room. Sure, your host is happy to get you a drink, but he/she wouldn't mind if you said hello and were polite about it, either.

And for the coffeephiles in the audience: yup, the drinks are good too. Personally, I'm a fan of the vanilla latte (hot) but there are a good many things to chew on. And speaking again of your friend's house, the sandwiches and soups are likewise nice, hearty comfort food like you would expect to have at your buddy's home.

The Staff steals from its customers. My wife went there, paid for the coffee and left a tip in cash as is her habit. When the bank got the bill a tip had been written in for almost as much as the coffee itself.

This is Theft. They will not only never get our biz again, but I will be complaining to the Better Biz over this incident.

Best coffee in town. I've been going to Plan B since I was 15 (That's about 9 years now) and I have always loved it. The coffee is great, the baristas are nice, and most of the time, there is cool art on the walls.

Worth checking out, attitude is a bummer. PlanB has good coffeehouse food, decent coffee, and nice couches/sofas to sit, but the barista I run in to every time I go has always been a bit peevish- tall guy, thinning light hair. I never had a huge problem with him until he asked me to put my shoes back on after I took them off to sit cross-legged on one of the couches (it is a laid-back coffeehouse afterall). This seems like such a silly minor thing, but it really bothered me and I don't know if I'll be going back for awhile, if at all. I take my shoes off before I sit cross-legged so I don't dirty the couches, just like you would take off your shoes when entering someone's home. Plus the couches at Plan B have *covers* on them, and the coffeehouse itself isn't picture of cleanliness.

It may have been the way the barista asked me to take off my shoes as well. I suppose that was my final straw with the pretentiousness mentioned in the previous reviews. I would prefer a poor cup of coffee with less rude baristas to a great cup and employees who look like the sun never shines on them. PlanB is worth checking out, but be mindfull of shoe stains on the couches.

Bad customer service.. My boyfriend and I went there on a Friday Night. The man who was serving us coffee seemed a little bit crabby. I think he obviously knew we were newbee's to this place. Everyone who walked in seemed like they had already been there for the 1239th time. After my boyfriend ordered his shake I ordered my hot chocolate. I slipped "I will have the white chocolate." and he just kinda looked at me like I "well what do you mean white chocolate?" As if he was annoyed at my not stating ""white HOT chocolate."" He put our drinks in to-go plastic cups - which I was aware of everyone's mugs etc. Quickly rung us up -no THANK YOU or is that all for you? It felt very unwelcoming. About 3- 5 hours later my boyrfirend and I had very bad experiences with the toilet - coincidence? I think not...

my favorite uptown coffee shop. i've been to many coffee shops in the uptown area, but this one is my favorite. the baristas are a little bit pretentious, but pretty friendly and they know how to make their drinks well. the atmosphere is relaxed- lots of people reading, in quiet conversation or on their laptops. the coffee is deeeelicious, and they make a mean peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
