Editorial Review for Bay Street Shoes – by Amy Weivoda

In Short
This has long been Uptown's premier footwear destination, and it proudly displays one of the classiest and most adventurous selections in Minneapolis. With an eye toward quality as well as style, Bay Street manages to be cosmopolitan and comfortable. Fashionistas looking for something a little painful to wear will find a choice spread of strappy, pointy and patent-leather items. Likewise, their sensible parents get European walking shoes, old-fashioned loafers and elegant Italian pumps are well-represented.

Nice shoes, nice selection. But, high pressure sales, and terribly restrictive return policy. The customer is NOT number one at this store. I gave up on them, and usually buy at Nordstroms (or on line sometimes--at zappos). Same price, similar high-end shoes, infinitely better service, and no questions asked return policy. Seriously, if you position your store as a quality seller, then act like one, Bay Street.

Pros: nice shoes

Cons: terrible customer service

The critical review fails to mention that Neiman Marcus and The Oval Room are in different price categories from Bay Street Shoes. The service is great, and there are many shoes that you cannot find anywhere else in the midwest. Look out for the new location at 50th and France. Judging from the old store that was there, the selection could be a bit more high end.

Pros: , unique shoes, fair prices
