Excellent curry!. The sweet green curry was excellent, the best I have ever tasted. I asked for it to be made one notch hotter than normal and they did that. It was perfect. My husband ordered the fiery seafood entree and he said it was dreadfully bad (tasteless sauce and just not good). I wondered as we were leaving why we didn't send his back. The calamari appetizer was not very good either, the batter fell off as you tried to eat it. Overall, I would recommend Chiang Mai Tai because the curry was so good. Also, they take reservations and on busy nights, this would seem like an excellent idea.
Perfect for those who like to be treated like garbage.. The perfect uptown place to go if you love to put up with with bad service. Bartender was drunk/high on a Sunday evening unable to comprehend simple orders. Also had a magnificent condescending attitude to everyone she served. I paid $20 for a beer to simply escape the disgusting customer service...waiting for change would be like asking God for a Cadillac. I had much nicer interaction, though much lower expectation, at the McDonald's I went to later.
Absolutely delicious!. Best Thai I've had in the Cities! My curry was absolutely to die for and our server was friendly and helpful. I highly recommend giving Chiang Mai Thai a try!
Some of the best Thai food in town, great food and drink options, good decor and friendly staff.. I am a huge fan of Thai food, and this is hands down one of my favorite Thai restaurants in Minneapolis. I highly recommend the jalapeno cream cheese puffs, the chicken satay, the fresh spring rolls, and the curry dishes. I have never had something here that I didn't enjoy. Candlelit tables and a fun layout make this place feel cozy and relaxing. Great service, and reasonable prices. I highly recommend this place!
Best Thai in town.
We were impressed with Chiang Mai Thai from the very moment we walked in. We asked the host if he knew if any of the menu items were gluten-free, and he handed us a special menu with gluten-free options. We were then lead around the beautifully decorred restaurant to our seat, all though we could have opted to eat outside as well. The waiter knew the menu, and was able to point me toward the vegan options on the menu. I can't stress how refreshing it is to deal with a waiter who knows the menu.
I settled on the yellow curry, and let me tell you that it was the best curry I have ever had. The flavors and textures were completely different from what I was expecting. The potatoes and yams were so soft that they just melted on your taste buds. The waiter recommended that I have the tofu steamed as opposed to deep fried, and he was right, it went well with the meal. I will be longing for the sweet and spicy sensation up until our next visit.
The price is a little more than other thai places (at $12 an entree), but the extra money is well worth it. This place is probably best reserved for special occasions anyway, although I'm sure I could invent some to get back there.
One of the best meals in Minneapolis. I was a bit leary after reading some of the reviews about the service, but noted that no one complains about the food, so we gave it a try. My wife and I went on a Saturday night at 7pm without a reservation, and we were seated by 720pm. We had the fired scallops for an appetizer and the panang curry and green cuur for our entree's. Everything was phenominal. IComing off a trip from India, I had been searching for good Thai curry, and they delviered. There is nothing more that I could have asked for. Additionally, the price was very reasonable ($50 for 1 app., 4 drinks, and 2 main courses). I can't wait to go back.
Visiting from New York, I was so excited to find a restaurant in which the Thai food was better than anywhere in my city of origin. In fact, I haven't had Thai this good in about ten years. Outstanding taste and fresh ingredients seems to be key at Chiang Mai. I feel so lucky to have stumbled into this place. You can bet I will come back next time I am in Minneapolis.
It is worth noting my waiter Steve was also very kind and helpful. At this restaurant, everyone was, in fact.
Good Thai food excellent price.
My wife and I went here on valentines day. I had called a little over a week early to make a reservation. When we got to the restaurant we were greeted and promptly taken to our seat. There were no long waits in between things. The food was excellent and we got more than we were expecting. I got enough for two meals and my wife had enough for three. What I really liked is they asked you how hot you would like your dishes and even offered to make it hotter after we got the meal if it was not hot enough!
Our waitress was very good. She refilled our drinks before they were gone. She was very cheerful and friendly. When it was time to bag the leftovers another guy came and asked if we wanted to take them. He took our plates and quickly put them in containers. What was nice was that because mine had more liquid, he put the container in a bag also in case it leaked, then put both in a brown bag.
Overall, one of my best dining experiences and extremely good food as well as customer service. Very impressed. Oh, the price was very good.
unaverage service. We went here on a Friday night. We were seated pretty quickly, however that's when the promptness ended. It took long periods of time between waiting for our order to be taken, our appetizer to come, then our entrees, and finally another long wait after we were done eating for our bill. The food was ok, but not so spectacular that I would want to go back to withstand the type of service we had. I would actually avoid this place in the future due to being almost ignored.
Sleek but cozy Thai Decor with average Thai food.
Overall, ChiangMai Thai was a pretty good experience.
Service: We were seated immediately, and our hostess was very pleasant and helped us get our young family tucked into a comfortable table. Our waitress was also as accomodating as she could be given the menu limitations re: kiddos, but was really nice about letting our kids eat some cheerios, and the milk and bananas that my husband had to "forage" for at the nearby Calhoun Square Starbucks.
Food: We ordered fried tofu (average), Yum woon sen (above average), yellow curry with chicken (average - the taste of the curry was a little flat and needed more body) and some sticky rice (you can't really screw that up) with beef jerky (which i found to be too sweet and salty at the same time, but I suppose some people may like it that way). I do like the fact that you can order your food with an extensive spectrum of spiciness.
Atmosphere: The decor is amazing - it's sleek and cozy at the same time, definitely with nice ambience. It would be a great place to meet up with some buddies for a meal.
Overall, the atmosphere is really nice, and worth a return trip for the atmosphere alone.
