watch out for the fries. The atmosphere is great -- old school country looking bar filled with every imaginable kind of Uptown resident. Cheap drinks and good jukebox, snooty bartender (probably because the place is frequently understaffed.) One thing to be careful of is the fries. They surreptitiously put a secret blend of spices on them -- mostly anise seed. If you don't like fries that taste like licorice, don't get them. They say it's what they are famous for. Personally I wouldn't make "fries that taste like butt" my main selling point. The rest of the food is pedestrian, but go there to drink a lot and you went to the right place.

laid back enviroment. Your first instict may be to turn back around and hit the bars down the street, but give it a chance. If you are unsure just walk in the back and take a seat at one of the tall round tables. Take my advice order a drink, and chicken wings it is what make shorty and wags so famous and unforgettable. however all there food is very tasty, and I believe they have the best french fries I have ever tasted. This is a very simple bar, and you may get some looks when you first walk in. But you will feel so comfortable by the time you pay your bill you will feel the need to say wave goodbye to everyone and wish them a good day when you are on the way out the door
