Dishonest.
I'm new to Minneapolis, MN and needed brakes for my truck. At first I went to a small mom & pop shop nearby and asked for a quote but they were a bit disorganized and it would take too long for the job and quote I decided to look for something else nearby and found Amigo a couple blocks away.
At first they took all day to give a quote, which put me at Friday 4pm and kinda forced to go with them if I wanted to have my brakes done by Monday.
They quoted labor at a very steep but doable rate for a rush job, but they overcharged me for parts in over 100% and they get their parts right across the street at Napa, where I on Friday morning after I dropped off my car to have a ballpark of parts cost. Even if I had done the job with the most expensive parts they had I'd still pay about $50 cheaper, so they gave me the option of buying my own parts after I complained and they would just charged me for the labor. So I bought the parts and dropped them off at their shop and asked after they checked everything if that was going to be my full cost with them and answer was YES!
On Saturday I got 2 calls from AMIGO with additional costs for labor and a $30 extra charge for parts that according to him were necessary to complete the job and said I could just come and pick up the car if I didn't agree with the costs. I had no choice if I wanted my car back by Monday, and was far away from the sjop to do anything about it and had to pay the price.
Later that same day I found out that my Mother-in-Law took her car there once and they forgot to put OIL in it, we just talked briefly about it and I don't know yet the outcome of that but will ask again.
THESE GUYS ARE WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE BUSINESS, I WILL NEVER TAKE MY CAR THERE AGAIN AND WILL NEVER LET ANY OF MY FRIENDS DO THE SAME.
AMIGO IS THE ENEMY!! JUST CHECK OUT THE OTHER REVIEWS THAT WERE NOT WRITTEN BY THEIR CREW AND FAMILY.
Misled us into doing extra work, lied about car issues.
We live right by Amigo, so when our Honda started making a funny noise we took it here immediately because it was the most convenient place to go. We really wish we hadn't.
The service guys couldn't tell us a thing without running a diagnostic which ran around $100. We agreed to do it. Following that, they say the pistons on the car were going out, and that we pretty much needed a new engine ($3,500). We were in shock - the car has a lot of miles on it, but it's been pretty good for a long time.
Then, the mechanic suggested an alternative procedure for over $100, saying that sometimes it works on coating the pistons and making them run smoothly again. We tried it, but the car stayed in the same rough shape. Disappointed, we started looking for new cars on craigslist and began to think about trashing ours.
As a last minute resort, yesterday we took the car to a friend who works on cars but lives quite far away. We figured it was worth taking another look by someone we trusted, just in case something was missed. And thank god we did!
We found out that none of the things Amigo said were wrong with the car actually were. In fact, the problem could have been easily diagnosed without running a diagnostic scan. It was a simple spark plug wire replacement that, in total with parts and labor, cost ninety bucks!
The car is running great again, but no thanks to Amigo. They either lied to us to rip us off, or they were stupid enough to not spot a simple problem. I don't really know which one of those two things is worse.
Don't take your car there!
Horrible!. cars wasnt working called amigo said it would be $80 to fix got a tow truck to drop it over there cost $60 bucks get over there and amigo tells me its gonna cost 50dollars to look at it when other shops charge 20 dollars which they never told me on the phone and i asked for fees, i asked why no one told me and some dumb ass manager came out saying that he didnt know that anyone talked to me abot this i had them check out the car which had been dropped off at 11 am with only 2 people in front of me they finally called at 5 pm and they close at 6 pm they check out the car for ten minutes and call me back and for this they charged me $50 im out of a car and theyre saying its gonna be 300 dollars but theyre not sure for this small fix i tell him to go check again, he calls me back in 10 minutes saying its gonna be a 1000 dollar fix. iam now pissed for being lied too. i went and got my car iam very angry at amigo and would not recommend anyoe in the twin cities area ever take your car there i still payed the $50 for the ten minute check they did but these guys are some real thiefs and liers. if you want good business take it to bobby and steves thats were i went and they charged alot less.

Always Helpful, and very Trustworthy. I moved to the Twin Cities 2.5 years ago and happened upon Amigo on accident. I needed an oil change and they are shell affliated and I was happy that I could put in on my credit card. Since then I have taken my car there for everything it has needed. I blew out a tire last spring the night before I left town. I called them on my way to the airport, and they towed my car in and fixed it while I was gone. They called me to tell me what was wrong and didn't make any repairs with out my approval. I had made an apt to take the car in for shocks previously for after my return, and they fixed that while the car was there as well. They are always friendly and never do work with out your approval so you know what the bill will be when you pick up your car.
great, reliable service. good attitudes.
I was reffered to these guys 7 years ago and they have taken great care of me ever since. I've sent everyone I care about to them for honest assessments and consistent service. Todd remembers my name when I walk in the door and knows how much I am willing to spend. They have often reffered my friends to a junk shop for parts if available. I've never thought that they were out to swindle me. As a woman who doesn't know much about cars, I have always felt respected. It is run like a small family, as such, they do close for the occasionally close for a holiday or two but they are now open Saturdays for a few hours.
Finally, the shop is always clean and friendly.
A friendly honest repair shop.
I have been taking my cars to Amigo for ten years now with repairs of all types. I have always been well taken care of. No shop will do a perfect job every time for to err is human. In my experience Amigo stands behind their work 100%. The occasional problem was always cheerfully corrected.
On one occasion I had a check engine light that would not go off and they told me it was the catalytic converter. They refused to repair it, saying that I should go to a dealer, for the manufacturer was obligated to fix it under warranty. They could have repaired it to make money but gave me this advice for no charge instead.
Amigo is also very woman-friendly, I have referred my elderly mother, my neighbors, and many other women to their shop and all have said they were very pleased.
Great Service. I had not been to Amigo for a while but went their recently. They did outstanding work on my van. There were some tough issues going on with it but were able to get it resolved. They also stand behind their work. They are all very friendly and trustworthy. I recommend them.
bad!!!!!. im sorry i didnt have the same good experience as the other two reviews . i brought these guys my recently purchased subaru outback that was giving me problems . they did a spendy diagnostics test and gave me vague results saying it was mechanical and at least it would need a valve job and quoted me right about what i paid for the vehicle . having depleated my bank account on the car i was in no position to pay this so before taking legal action against the previous owner i opted for a second opinion .thank god i did!! the shop i took it to explained everything in plain english and fixed my car for a fraction of the price with a better warranty. two months later and my car is running great.no thanks to amigo. at the new shop i got to work directly with the mechanic not the shifty buisness types that work the counter likeat amigo.PLEASE CONSUMER GET A SECOND OPINION.look at city pages award winners. shame on amigo!!
HONEST WORK FOR A FAIR PRICE. HAVE BEEN GOING TO AMIGO FOR YEARS. FAMILY OWNED IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD SINCE I WAS A KID. RECENTLY HAD A PROBLEM ON THE OTHER SIDE OF TOWN WITH SOME BRAKE NOISE. STOPPED INTO A SHOP FOR A CHECK. TO SEE IF IT WAS SAFE TO MAKE IT HOME. THEY TRIED TO SELL ME $700.00 WORTH OF BRAKES CALLED AMIGO AND THE GUYS THERE SAID IT SHOULDN"T BE OVER $500.00, AND I COULD PROBAPLY GET CAR TO THEM SAFELY. DROVE TO AMIGO. IT WAS $375.00 AND WASN'T THE BRAKES AT ALL. THESE GUYS ARE GREAT. THEY HAVE GONE ABOVE AND BEYOND FOR US FOR YEARS AND ALTHOUGH THEY MAY NOT BE PERFECT THEY DO TRY AND CARE. I AGREE, AMIGO RULES!!!!!!!!!!
