Editorial Review for Pane Vino Dolce – by Donna Tabbert Long

In Short
The minimally decorated room manages to have a cool, friendly, trattoria feel--and the showpiece candlelit chandelier, with its glass globe stuffed full of garlic and red peppers, hints at bold flavors coming from the kitchen. At Pane Vino Dolce, the menu offers much more than "bread, wine sweets." The plate-sized pizza--a perfect appetizer for four--is a racy mixture of roasted garlic and goat cheese atop a tomato-sauced crust. Seafood risotto is smothered in white wine.

I was really looking forward to trying this place out, but apparently it closed near the end of July, 2007. Booooo.

Pros: Intrigue

Cons: Not open

5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended

After reading some of the reviews I was slightly hesitant to check out the place, but I was glad I did. The entrance is a bit confusing as it's not marked but there was a man out front ushering customers in (I think he works at Cafe Vin as well). The restaurant is very simple-it's basically a room, shabby chic decor. The staff was extremely efficient and attentive. Our server was very kind, patient, and even brought us samples of some of the wines that my wife and I were interested in. I noticednone of the pretension that other reviewers felt. The food was excellent (flank steak and ravioli with butternut squash). Portions would probably be considered small by some, but be we felt full on what we ate. Overall, one of the better dining experiences that I've had in Minneapolis.

Pros: Excellent service, superb food

Cons: Restaurant isn't marked, parking
