Editorial Review for Anodyne Coffeehouse – by Annamarie Cumpston
In Short
This comfy little coffee joint blends industrial design--a corrugated sheet wall, a couch with stainless-steel wheels as feet--and all the standard coffee-cafe combos. The food is a creative step up from most coffeehouse fare, with choices like eggs scrambled in an espresso machine, a British pub lunch and the questionable square eggs and Spam. Anodyne Oatmeal--cooked in apple cider with wild rice, raisins, pecans and poached pears in maple syrup--is a popular breakfast choice.

Insider Tips
The ExtrasAlong with an abundance of scratch-made items, Anodyne also dishes out Minneapolis' famous Sebastian Joe's ice cream, with flavors like Pavarotti or raspberry chocolate chip available in cone, cup or pint.
Save MoneyIn the early mornings, Anodyne sometimes has a handful of leftover one-day-old baked goods for sale. The gooey and crispy oatmeal cookies are exceptionally good.
When to GoOn Friday nights, this little high-design coffee shop often hosts open-mic nights and music by local acoustic artists.

I've been going to Anodyne for 3 years. It's been convenient since I live nearby and I'd rather support a local coffeeshop vs. a Starbucks. The only problem is that the staff is so rude! I've thought of not going many times but it was just so darn convenient. I recently went to Common Roots and found a similar atmosphere, great food, nice outdoor seating, alcohol (even!), wireless AND they actually employ people who smile once in awhile. I'm thrilled to move my morning breakfasts to a place that gives off a positive vibe.
Pros: Wireless / Food
Cons: Staff

Anodyne actually means a source of soothing comfort. That is what I thought when I went to this coffee shop/restaurant. I had a curried turkey sandwich, served with homemade kettle chips, which tasted marvelous-very original, flavorful and healthy. I got the idea that all the things they make and serve are organic, but this may be wrong. I like to sit outside at the patio tables that have window boxes full of plants and people with their dogs by their side. The coffee was also great. I had an iced coffee that was made with half and half instead of milk which I'm used to, so it was obviously a treat! I would go back again and again with my mom, a friend or my boy-friend. This place is vegetarian and vegan friendly :o)
