What People Are Saying About Ground Zero

In Short – Music is the order of the evening at this cavernous, industrial-chic space in northeast Minneapolis. National tours and DJs also occasionally hit the stage, playing anything from alternative to classics from the 1950s and '60s. Themes are anything but routine--Thursdays and Saturdays feature voyeuristic "Bondage a Go-Go" parties. Expect to see a young-ish, fashionable crowd enjoying reasonably priced stiff drinks and a constantly hopping dance floor.

Editor's Tips

Know Before You Go:
Nothing is actually whipped during "Bondage a Go Go"--the cheeky S&M scenes are strictly staged.

How do I found out more information?

by swedegirl84 at Citysearch

Ground Zero certainly does not know how to market themselves, unless I'm missing something really obvious here. They don't appear to have any website at all, can't find them on Myspace and the info on Facebook is extremely lacking. They don't put up information on events until immediately preceding them, leaving no time to plan in advance to attend and those who maintain the Facebook page don't even bother writing event details at all - but upload a very low quality, tiny image where you can't even see any of the details of the event. Can anyone clue me in here or how else does everyone find out who/what bands come to play at this place?!! Really bad marketing here!!!

My favorite Bar, but needs some work

by LouLouBelle at Citysearch

So I happen to love industrial/techno dance music and this is the place to be. I love bondage-a-go-go Saturday nights and all the awesome people there. Overall, I've had some intensely fun and interesting nights there! That being said, the staff is honestly pretty rude and elitist. Be fair warned that no matter how humble, kind, and open minded you may try to be, people will stick their nose up to you if you don't look "alternative." Sometimes it is kinda of dead, but I think they just need to advertise a little more and have friendlier service...that's all :)

Potential but falls short

by TJMOR at Citysearch

I have gone to Ground Zero a few dozen times, everytime hoping for more and being disappointed. I have been going to goth and industrial clubs for over 20 years now, on both coasts and other countries. When I first moved to Minneapolis I heard people raving about how great it was, but I do not see it. It might be great for the Hot Topic generation who are under the belief that nine inch nails and marilyn manson are industrial or goth, but for someone that knows the genres and has grown up on it it is a big dissapointment. There seems to be a bsaic playlist with a few songs switched around from time to time , all the songs are basic safe "top 40 industrial" songs, when they actually do play industrial, I have yet to hear more than 3 actual goth rock songs the entire time I have been going. It is disappointing and not worth the cover charge.

  • Pros: Descent space, good drinks
  • Cons: fails to deliver the goth industrial theme

midnight muse shakedown

by Firebreather at Citysearch

i've been going to ground zero about 20 years now, but will have to switch to chambers because of the bait and switch practices ground zero has lately used for their cover. one recent example: on the midnight muse event on july 17 they charged $12 (over 21) and $14 (under 21) at the door. the show was advertised at $6/$8 (their usual cover) on the city pages web site, the secrets of the city web site, and in print. i was also told over the phone that very afternoon when i called them that it would be $6. i told the cashier girl and the guy stamping hands at the entrance this to no avail, it was gonna be $24 for my girlfiend and i. they were so unapologetic about the shakedown we left on principle

  • Pros: long standing goth club
  • Cons: aften charges higher than advertised at door
