Very nice Chinese buffet with pleasant service.

My partner and I decided to re-visit this Chinese buffet during the early evening around 6 p.m. I have had good experiences at this restaurant in the past and have also had experiences where the food was mediocre and the restaurant very crowded. However, this time there were only about three or four occupied tables and the food was very fresh and delicious. On this evening, there was only one buffet bar being used. Generally, there were the basics: kung pao chicken, vegetable lo mein, egg rolls, egg flower soup, hot and sour soup, fried dim sum, sesame chicken, etc. This time around, the buffet offered wonderful sole in ginger sauce, shrimp with vegetables, beef with red and green peppers, szechuan green beans, and fried squid with onions. Usually the egg drop soups at most buffets are simply awful: very salty with a unappetizing texture. However, the egg flower soup offered at this buffet was excellent: it was substantial with a good medium texture. The food was kept fresh and the staff was friendly and courteous: they kept our drinks replenished and picked up our used dishes in a very timely manner.
Below-average Chinese food, and not even a lot of it

I've been to a number of Chinese buffets in the Twin Cities before, including many in the south metro area. U Garden was definitely nothing special, and was actually below average. There's a massive amount of seating available that dwarfs the 2-3 buffet bars they had available, and during the lunch rush that seating was well-utilized.
When I went, they had a collection of Chinese dishes fairly typical to those found throughout the USA. The food bars had an average selection of food, with at least two dishes duplicated on both the hot bars.
The selections I tried, though, failed to impress. The Egg Foo Young quite bland and the gravy failed to add any flavor other than runny starch. The Won Ton Soup tasted okay but unfortunately was the best thing I tried.
Since it's just down the road from a number of good Asian food restaurants in Stadium Village, I'm not sure what the draw here is.
- Pros: Quick service, ample seating
- Cons: Below-average buffet food
A Big Room - A Big Buffet!

This place is huge! Been there twice and satified both times. The size of the room is massive and the service is quick. Everything was fresh and hot! Great size drinks as well and the price can't be beat. Be sure to check it out - it's worth it.
- Pros: Price, Selection, Service
- Cons: Free parking is a bit tight
Best Chinese food anywhere. Great customer service. New place gives one lots of space.

The U Garden is an outstanding Chinese restaurant. We have found non finer in food and service. We always take our out of town guests to the U Garden, and they ask to go again when they visit! Huy and the group serve only the best. Family takes great pride in their service.
- Pros: clean, spacious, friendly atmosphere
- Cons: traffic to get there

They just completed a new addition to the building and the place has doubled in size. Very spacious and roomy.
Besides their great buffet selection, the private party menu selections were fabulious!!! We were guess at a wedding reception there and service was excellent. U Garden caters to large and small private parties.
- Pros: Friendly service, large free parking lot, and tasty food. Yum Yum!
