What People Are Saying About Kikugawa At Riverplace

In Short – It isn't the most creative Japanese restaurant in town, but what it lacks in flair it more than makes up for in reliability, dedicated service and unhurried confidence. After hot hand towels, locals and foodies turn their attention to the gorgeous Minneapolis skyline over the Mississippi as they sample the extensive sake menu. There's an enormous prix-fixe dinner, which includes your choice of sashimi or yakitori; broiled marinated salmon and shrimp and vegetable tempura. – –
Where's the customer service?
by SamPuckett
During the course of our dinner there last week, a matter came up that needed the managers attention. My request was ignored/refused by the waitress/server (or I suspect by the manager) resulting in a very unpleasant dining experience. Business was quiet, so being too busy isn't an excuse. Although the food is generally good, the lack of respectful customer service and overall negative attitude makes this visit our last.
- Pros: Food is above average
- Cons: Customer service
Tacky ambiance, slow service, and terrrible food.

My friend suggested this part of town, so I did some reviewing and found Kikugawa to have the best ratings on this beautiful strip. I was disappointed with the restaurant. The caterpillar role had hardly any eel in it and the special sauce on the over baked bay scallops and mushrooms "dynamite" tasted closer to hollandaise than anything. The green tea tasted like hay and the server had very little knowledge about the food. As far as selection it all looked pretty expansive except for the maki rolls. The style is very 1990's with its cheap wood and teal colors. And worst yet NO patio for this great location. Price's are fair.
- Pros: Location
- Cons: Too many!
