GRUMPYS. TRYING IT TODAY, LETS SEE, SHALL WE, OH I AM SO EXCITED OOOOOOOOOOOWEEEEEEEEEE
soulless atmosphere, poor service: AVOID.
This is almost the exact opposite of the Grumpy's in NE Mpls, with the exception of the surly staff attitude.
Where the NE bar is cramped, this place seems empty with 20 people in it. It's hard to call this a "neighbourhood bar", because almost nobody lives around there.
One thing that the Grumpy's chain seems to encourage is a lousy attitude toward customers. It starts when you park in the back - a surly old guy will confront you. When you pass that gauntlet, you will sit for about 15 minutes before anyone even approaches you for your order, even if you sit at the bar. Don't try to flag their attention, or you will get a generous helping of contempt.
Actually, you will get disdain and contempt regardless.
The last time I went there, my friend and I waited 20 minutes at the bar, though there were only about ten people in the place. It took over five minutes to get a tap beer, and another ten minutes before anyone took our food order. Everyone there makes no secret of their belief that customers are a pain the neck, and they get some kind of perverse pleasure from being annoying and rude.
Go over your check carefully. The staff will place other people's food/drink on your bill. Trying to straighten it out is exasperating, as the staff really don't care.
I can think of no reason, even mildly compelling, to go to this establishment. Though we tipped cash ($1/beer) separate from our food tab, there was no change in attitude or quality of service. The bartender seemed genuinely irritated by our desire to have a second round.…
grumpy is right. i won't be going back. a grumpy bartender is not worth my time. after saying i don't like a certain type of beer, he brought one over. i thought it was a joke or that maybe he liked it and wanted me to try it? i should have clarified. my husband took a few sips, as did i - but i don't think we even finished it. at the end of the night when i didn't want to pay for it, he said, "i hate complainers" and took about 20 minutes running around complaining to his fellow bartenders before he actually knocked it off the bill. whatever, lame place. and the jukebox sucked - you couldn't hear it except for the two tables right by it. i will admit the food can be good but it's not worth it.…
Tots!. Now, I've been to Grumpy's a handful of times and I will agree - don't go after a Twins Game. Menu is VERY limited, but took some friends here for lunch recently and they loved it! Everyone had a burger and I had the El Paso Tuna Melt. Food came quick, was delicious, and attentive service. The drinks poured in the evening are strong enough and at a good price. I recommend for the food and drinks. Lots of fried stuff if that's what you're into.…
Stay away for Twins games.. Avoid Grumpy's on Minnesota Twins game days. Grumpys has sold their soul to Bobby and Steve's Auto World and now charges you a parking fee to eat or drink there before games.
