It offers everything you want in a hometown pizzeria..
The Scene
The numerous locations are clean but not fussy. You can get in and out fast if that's what you want, but it's OK to linger--no one sweeps the dining room for stragglers. Order at the walk-up counter, grab your pebbled plastic pop glass and head for a table to wait for your name to be called.
The Food
The hand-thrown pizzas are a true treat--Davanni's sauce is less a liquid than a thick spread of chunky tomatoes, which tomato fans love and tomato-haters can easily pick off. The thin-crust 'za is fine, but Davanni's deep-dish, with a towering crust as rich as a stick of butter, is a melt-in-the-mouth joy. A variety of hoagies utilize pizza ingredients in creative ways (pepperoni in the club, peppers and olives in the veggie). The addictive garlic-cheese bread, made with the hoagie buns and a thick carpet of cheese, is on the verge of being named a food group by Twin Cities college students.
