I do not recommend...horrible management. The strengths of CBC apartments are security and location. The gym is also nice. However, overall I would not recommend living here due to management. I extended my lease 4 months past the original year lease. I informed a staff member of my intention to vacate during this time and he had me sign forms online; unfortunately, the online system was not working and I had to repeatedly go online to sign the form. He also said he would have paperwork delivered under the door, which never was. Ultimately, I am now charged with large fees due to "giving lack of notice" for move out. To make matters worse, I didn't get a bill until 7 months after moving out! During this time when I called the office for help, I would be told that someone would get back to me tomorrow, but they would fail to follow through. Also, I was promised some reduction on rent for a month due to a very loud air conditioner, which I never received. There are a lot of other nice apartments in the area that may not be as easy to find, but that would have saved me a lot of money and headache.
The WORST experience ever!. Wehave been all over the US, and have belonged to many different clubs and have used a few different trainers in the past. My wife and I recently moved to Minneapolis and joined the calhoun beach club due to a friends referral. Big mistake! I recently met with the personal training manager, Jeff. Who turned out to be the MOST egotistical person i have ever met. My wife met with him as well and couldn't stand being in the same room as him. He never listened to our concerns, just talked about himself and how great of a trainer he was. We have nicknamed him Napoleon! if you see him you will understand... It turned out to be the worst experience we have encountered in a gym atmosphere which is why we have switched to Lifetime, at least there we get treated halfway decent by staff and don't have to smell mold whenever we are in the club. This would not be a recommendation for a gym, its only for those who want to flaunt their social status at a club that is dying out and like to deal with egomaniacs. No Thank You
Way too expensive for the level of equipment and size. I have no idea how they get enough members to sign up for the club. At $150/mo for a single membership, that is pretty amazing. The equipment is not as nice as Lifetime's. And it is relatively small. I even live in the building itself, and apparently don't get a discount. If you want to hobnob with some exclusive members (I'm assuming that's why people pay the money, I don't know) then maybe it's the club for you. Otherwise, I see no justification for the rates they charge. Also, hours are not good, I believe they close at 7:30 on weekends, and 9:30 on weekdays. They do have reasonably good and frequent happy hours and wine servings at the View for club members. And they offer a reduced rate of $100/mo in the summers for many guests who want to use the pool and the poolside bar. All in all, definitely not worth the cost.
Worst Customer Service!.
My wife and I moved into the CBC apartments about a year ago and we have never experienced such horrible customer service. The woman who sits at the front desk during the day is rude and often talks badly about other tenants whenever I need to interact with her, which is as little as possible. It is almost impossible to get anyone to return phone calls or emails. If you have a concern, no matter how big or small, forget about anyone caring or doing anything about it. The saleswoman who worked with us when we were first looking was overly nice before we moved in, but once in...forget it! We also never receive any emails with updates about what is going on around the building such as garage resurfacing, window washing or social events. You have to watch for things to be posted in the elevator or in your garbage room and even then the memo's are incomplete, obsolete or just plain wrong! The communication is horrible!!! With that being said, I have to say the maintenence staff is great and is always prompt and very nice.
The fitness facility has a great staff that is extremely friendly, especially the morning front desk staff, but the club itself smells musty and moldy and is in dire need of an update. The massage area is really loud and many of the classes are an extra charge.
The pool area is very nice, but there is one...ONE umbrella for the entire pool. You have to get out there at the crack of dawn if you want to try and use it and then be prepared for someone to eventually try and take it while you go to the bathroom or complain that you have been "using it too long." They either need to get more umbrella's and charge a "rental fee" if they are so broke, or take them all away. My wife has very fair skin and likes to sit outside by the pool under an umbrella. Last year they seemed to have an ample amount but when I asked about them this year I was told "they have all broken and they are too expensive to buy new ones." For over $3,000 a month in rent, and the outrageous prices people pay for memberships that don't live here, I think they could provide umbrella's at the pool! I found some at Target for less than $100.
We more than likely will NOT be renewing our lease and there are plenty of other "clubs" and fitness centers around the area with nice pools and plenty of umbrellas! If you can, look around and until this place can get their act together, don't waste your money!
Overpriced, Underperforms.
CBC doesn't compare to an Equinox, Sportsclub LA, or any of the other "high-end" fitness clubs, yet its priced along with them.
If you enjoy watching tv on a leather couch with scantily clad 60 year-olds, this might be your club.
No thanks.
Where do I begin. We moved in about a year ago. The management at this building is quite possibly the most horrendous that I have seen anywhere. We got a dog almost nine months after we moved in and they attempted to make us pay a non-refundable $2,000 carpet replacement fee, which we negotiated down a bit. Additionally to that, we pay an extra $50.00 a month. None of this was ever made known to us prior to moving in.
The health club has our credit card info and adds things, whenever, however, they choose; at times they add things that we didn't even consume!! I brought a friend to the pool one time for about an hour, they charged me $21.00 for a "guest pass." I was told because this was a "private club." No one ever said anything about it., just put it on the tab. Did I mention yet that I am paying over $3,000 per month for a 1300sqft apt?? Can't have children in the club like every other day, and no kids in the pool all day Fri or Sat. afternoon. (never told this either).
Also, the health club is mediocre at best. For a membership there, I believe it is more expensive than lifetime and it is sub-par.
Thought about upgrading to larger apt. for the next year's lease while we build our house and I looked with the leasing agent and she told me that we could likely negotiate a good price, but when we decided to stay they would only reduce our current rent by $30.00 lousy
dollars a month.
The leasing agents don't return emails. The GM of this building avoids all contact with anyone and seems to be quite arrogant.
The traffic around there in peek times and a nice weekend is horrific. I would recommend, highly, going elsewhere.
Poor Leasing Agent service, Watch out for the HUGE rental renewal increase when your lease is up for renewal!.
The Calhoun Beach Club offers several venues of upscale living. It has a great, quieter athletic club. Machines & free weights are readily available. The indoor pool is wonderfully warm in the cool months. The outdoor pool has a luxurious atmosphere in the spring/summer and has staff available to get you drinks/food while you lounge. .
The luxury apartments in both buildings of the complex are completely amazing and offer the highest quality craftsmanship with almost every ammenity known to man. The apartment units are currently being upgraded to meet today's evolving standards. The location is perfect for those who want to be near the lake district and Uptown/downtown Minneapolis.
The major downside to this property is the apartment management. They project an image of great service and community but once you sign the lease, good luck on getting them to follow through with their promises! They also do not promote lease renewal by current renters by greatly increasing the rent at renewal (typically 1 year). They also always claim to be at or near 100% capacity ...which is a lie and can not be confirmed by renters. They are good sales people and bluff with the best, so be prepared for their tricks. The concierge service and attitude is sub-par at best. The maintenance service is very good and is the only service which is respectable.
View Restaurant is okay.
The current general manager avoids communication with renters that have issues and delays communication when possible. He also rented the member's Solarium to D'Amico & Sons and effectively ruined the member's use of that beautiful space. AIMCO is the owner of this property and they are in business to make as much money as they can. Calhoun Beach Club is a cash cow and they do not need to put much money into this property for this reason. They have no need to perform either. It's a slam dunk business for the management, hence the lack of customer service. Be careful with these sharks.
Overrated, and outdated. I first visited the Coulhoun Beach club building in 2005 when some friends lived in an apartment in the building. While I admit the location is nice, there are lots of nice apartments in that entire area so it wouldn't be the main deciding factor for me. The traffic in the area around the building is horrendous and the area around the lake is packed with people all the time (for some maybe that's a plus, but for me, it's rather annoying). This would be a fun place to live if you were a retired person, but leaving the neighborhood and driving to and from work is a headache. THe neighborhoods near Lake Har. and Lake Nok. are much more appealing.
A "has been" Club. I first visited this club as a member of The Honolulu Club using the Passport. There was no comparison between the 2 clubs.! When I moved to Minneapolis I joined Lifetime Fitness. The CBC is dingy and the weight room is archaic. The rooftop pool is a nice feature in July!! It wasn't for me.
Editorial Review. This swanky, high-priced and historic club offers squash courts, ski machines, tai chi, yoga, Pilates and dance classes.
